http://www.ufc.com/news/UFC-Statemen...lbert-Melendez Following his bout at UFC 188 in Mexico City on June 13, UFC lightweight Gilbert Melendez tested positive for exogenous origin of testosterone metabolites. The UFC has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents by our athletes. As a result of the positive test, Melendez has accepted a one-year suspension, effective from the date of the bout, for violating the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy and Promotional Agreement with Zuffa, LLC. “Regrettably, I tested positive in my post fight urine sample for UFC 188,” Melendez said. “I did not inject anything, but I am responsible and accept the consequences for the results. I will make sure I am better educated about the products I use and their implications. Going forward I will ensure no products I use will contain banned substances. I am sincerely apologetic to everyone who supports me, including my fans, sponsors and the UFC. I value your trust and respect and will do everything in my power to keep it.” Melendez will no longer compete as scheduled on July 15. UFC officials are currently seeking a new opponent for Al Iaquinta, who was scheduled to face Melendez.
If there is one thing I hate worst than a PED cheat, it's a PED cheat that "needs to pay better attention to the supplements" they're taking.
Yeah, why doesn't he name the supplement to help 'better educate' everyone else? Why? Because it's probably called something like 'Mega-Illegal Super Juice Power Roid Enhancement'. 1 year is not enough.
Especially a Guy who Comes Off as Genuinely INTELLIGENT & KNOWLEDGEABLE, the Way Melendez Does in his Commentary...No Way this a Mistake, an Accident or However he's Trying to Characterize this... REED:baa:
I mean with all the new shit coming out everyday, it IS possible that he didnt know, but IMO that is not good enough. Not knowing is just as bad as knowing and doing it anyways. Get your shit together.
The right ones can help. EPO, boldenone, several others. Testosterone, not so much unless it's combined with high altitude training. Maybe they shouldn't have big UFC events in places at such a high elevation. Most of the fighters gassed early that night.
They just need to train properly. 1 fighter in each fight gassed that night. BTW, melendes failed a Scheduled test. Lends support that he may have not known what he was taking. But still. Not knowing is not an excuse. Even if it's true.
These poor bastards consume all these steroids by accident?? They accidentally eat steroids but never say.. rat poison. Hmmm. Lucky I guess. .
Did you see the Melendez / Alvarez fight? Both guys looked like shit compared to my expectations. I had been looking forward to that fight for years. I'm not making excuses for Melendez. He's been one of my favorite fighters for a long time. He was one of the last guys I'd ever expect to cheat, however he was cheating. This story is disappointing. There have been cases where sports supplements secretly contained steroids not on the list of ingredients. Some shady companies have done that, since they know they'll get rave reviews and tons of sales when people see their stuff actually works. It is more common for guys to get caught cheating from taking supplements that they knew contained anabolic steroids or prohormones that convert to anabolic steroids. Lots of things like that are still legal to buy but are banned in pro sports.
It's funny, I used to think you could look like Hulk Hogan from taking vitamins and lifting weights. I used to think pro wrestling was real too.
I find it kind of funny, ironic or just cool that of the Caesar Gracie pack (Melendez, Shields, Nick and Nate Diaz) that it's Melendez and Shields, the straight arrows, are the ones that got popped for PED's. I know Nick has the grass issue but it's not the same thing.
Nick and Nate love weed like I do. It's legal here in California. I agree with the harsher punishments coming up for PEDs. It's ridiculous that they're increasing the penalties for testing positive for weed while the rest of the country is moving towards decriminalization or full legalization. It's really hard to fail a drug test for cocaine. You have to have just done it in the last couple days to fail a test. Cannabinoid metabolites can stay in your system for over a month. Punishing recreational drug users in MMA encourages people to use hard drugs like crack or meth instead of an essentially harmless drug like cannabis.
The PEDs like, didn't help Gilbert much, or something. And yeah I agree, the whole "Oops, I didn't realise those PEDs I took were banned" is the lamest excuse in the book.
It makes sense because crack and meth are out of your system in a couple days. They're easy to get away with. Jon Jones must have literally been using coke a day or two before he failed that drug test. Weed metabolites can stay in your system over a month. The most harmless recreational drug is the one that's hardest to get away with. Nick Diaz stopped getting high for a month before the Silva fight and he still got caught.
I understand all that, but the system in no way encourages anyone to do meth or crack or any of that. TFK
How about don't do anything shut the fuck up and enjoy millions of dollars being a professional athlete
Don't do anything except drink alcohol, right? That''s legal, so it must be healthier. And take oxycontin and vicodin like your good doctor prescribes after the fight. It's not like there's a plant that's a safer alternative to alcohol and a healthier alternative to prescription pain meds.
