Obscure and/or foreign films that you would recommend.

  1. By foreign I mean anything non-American and non-British. You can also list American/British films that are not mainstream.

    I love me some non-mainstream films.

    I'll start

    The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series, original Swedish versions, naturally. All three films are excellent.

    Hut I think you'd like a movie called Mondays In The Sun. It's with Javier Bardem, about laid off dock workers in the north of Spain.

    This probably doesn't count as 'obscure' but i imagine its one most won't have seen it (or ever considered seeking it out to watch) - Reign over Me with adam sandler and Don Cheadle. Proper 10/10 movie, believe it or not. It'd be in my top 5.

    can't get it on UK DVD. I'm thinking of buying a dvd player that plays other formats though because this is happening to me more and more

    Not an obscure film by any stretch of the imagination, but not many people have watched that delightful French film Amelie which you can watch on Netflix.

    "Run Lola Run" has always been a favorite of mine. Still watch it when I run across it on cable.

    with a nod to Noble who mentioned it in the other thread - do UK films count as foreign for you North American dewds?

    Anyway, if you havent watched sexy beast you should its possibly the best gangster movie ever, imo
