I saw the Ndam fight. He's no better. Still the same walk forward winging punches type fighter. He might have paced himself a little better but that's about it. Plus neither Ndam or Rosado are heavy hitters so he could afford to walk them down.
Do you really think golovkin would be concerned with the weight if ward brought what delahoya did to the table financially?
The real question is Do you really think ward would be concerned with the weight if GGG brought what delahoya did to the table financially? That's why Ward and Kovalev is a more realistic fight based on the discussions Kathy Duva has had with Ward's folks. HBO seems to be on board with this. Let's be honest about what's happening here...GGG is more concerned about getting the winner of Canelo and Cotto. Both bring more money and far less risk. If it's a good fight and let's say Cotto wins, I'm sure there's a rematch which keeps GGG chasing the division below him. I don't get how and why folks think GGG has any pull in this. he doesn't. His team is basically throwing out names to see who they can bait into a fight. "like I said before" LePieux is a bigger draw than GGG...since everyone wants to throw out that bit when talking about Ward. Let him go to Montreal and fight just like Kovalev did.
his team put their money where their mouth is. Golovkin will be fighting on PPV, something ward has never done. for all ward has accomplished, there was absolutely zero interest in the guys last two fights in california. he has zero fan base outside of his hometown, and based on his last fight even that pool is dwindling. like it or not, Golovkin has an increasing fan base despite his very thin resume. A win over lemiuex is an exciting bout will only increase this trend. Kovalev has obviously been willing to fight ward at anytime, so its simply up to ward when he feels ready/wants to make it happen. He is doing the same shit as golovkin, hoping the smaller guy who is a more winnable fight moves up rather than facing the bigger more dangerous guy. Lemiuex is not a bigger draw than Golovkin. I dont know that the fight draws a bigger gate in montreal than MSG. Golovkin sells more tickets than Lemieux in LA, NY, Texas presumably. i dont consider the frenchman more popular. I dont see how you can knock what golovkin is doing. his team is winning, they just got an opponent people are excited to see, in a unification, which golovkin has at least an 80% of winning. THeres no way it will be a boring fight that turns off any of his fan base. basically it shall only lead to improving his standing in the boxing world. on to bigger and better things.
For LePieux. If they really wanted Ward they should have done the same thing. I'm not knocking what his team is doing. They're goingthe right route to make him into a star. The fact is, he isn't. Secondly, I'm not sure why you guys insist on making GGG out to be something he is not. In relationship to Ward, whether you like it or not he is far more accomplished than GGG is and GGG is two years older than Ward. He turned pro two years after Ward and has more fights than Ward and has fought much weaker competition. Those are facts. Ward doesn't need GGG, it's the other way around. We know you don't like Ward and love GGG, that's really what this is about. I don't have a dog in either fight I'm calling it as it is. At this point GGG is a pop idol and his fan are fighting over a copy of him on the cover of Tiger Beat. I just want to see him fight. After LePieux it'll be the same storyline...waiting on the winner of Cotto-Canelo. If he were really that interested in making a fight he wouldn't have an issue with facing Ward at 168. Regarding Ward, Kathy Duva said all last week an HBO mentioned it that the plan is to get a rematch with Pascal done (thus the BS decision he got) get ward another fight then match Kovalev and Ward next fall. All parties are on record saying that. No where in any of what Duva, Ward or HBO stated was there a weight clause for the kovalev match. There goes your theory about ward "doing the same thing as golovkin." Getting back to the LePieux bit, LePieux has draw similar if not more to his Bell Centre fights dating back to 2011 when he lost to Rubio. he's consistently drawn that size crowd. Doesn't mean he's a better fighter, just means he put asses in seats. The same can be said about Pascal...Kovalev went there and kicked his ass and yet this past weekend they basically gave away tickets in Vegas. Pascal is a bigger draw in Canada. Those canuck half frenchies love their awful fighters. Lastly, since Abel Sanchez has been so vocal about how badly GGG beat up Kovalev when they sparred...why bother with Lepieux or ward. why not fight kovalev straight away? To get back to your Mosley analogy that's what Shane did. Skipped 140 to get to Oscar at 147. We both know that won't happen. Their eyes are focused on what happens between cotto and canelo. That's extremely obvious. I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm saying enough with the bullshit about how GGG can't get any fights.
The thought of Golovkin just beating up Kov in sparring and Kov being able to do fuck all about it is just so preposterous it ain't even funny.
No, it's a Bullshit Rumor Floated by Abel Sanchez, who Talks MORE Shit than a Trainer Should... REED's Heard GGG "Knocked Kovalev Out Cold" and that he "Dropped Kovalev w/a Body Shot"...Doubtful EITHER are True or Else WHY Would Team GGG Be Sooooooo RELUCTANT To Move Up 8lbs??? Sanchez Trained Kovalev Briefly & they LOATHE Each Other to this Very Day, According to HBO...No Doubt, Sanchez STARTED that Bullshit Rumor... REED:blah:
Damn!!!...Muzse Knocks it OUT of the Park!!!... Well Said...NATHAN REED Could Add to this Post... REED:bravo:
Cotto-Trout Did 13,000....Cotto vs. DAMAGED GOODS Margarita Did 18,000...Cotto-Martinez (In What was WIDELY Considered a "Cash-Out" Fight for Cotto) Did 21,000... More Importantly, GGG-Geale Did 8500, While Cotto-Geale Did Over 12,000, at the Barclay's Center...Soooooo, as Previously Stated, GGG WILL NOT Approach Miguel Cotto's MSG #'s w/Out Actually FACING Miguel Cotto, or Someone Else Perceived as an Actual THREAT... For a Change... Aside from that, How Many Asses Do YOU Think GGG will Put in Seats, for the Lemieux Fight???... REEDopcorn:
Lemieux's Also a TRUE Middleweight...Miguel Cotto ISN'T... NO Comparison on Who the BETTER Fighter is, Either... REED:nono:
i seriously expect it to sell out. and Id be shocked if there were less than 15,000 tickets sold. and if ward were fighting kovalev at MSG instead on that date i think it would sell less than 10,000 tickets
Miguel Cotto CANNOT call himself the middleweight champion of the world, yet at the same time consider himself exempt from having to face the best middleweight of the world. It just doesn't work that way.
Nor should it, but there are fighters and their fans out there who think they can cordon off parts of the boxing world and run it like their own personal fiefdom.
Exactly, and especially not remain in the division. If the Martinez fight was one and done it would be a different story.
Of Course it "Works" that Way... It Took Floyd Mayweather 5 Fucking YEARS to Face the Next BEST Guy of his Era, Who just Sooooo Happened to Reside in the Same Weight Class...The 2 BEST Heavyweights of the Post-Lennox Lewis Era NEVER Fought Each Other... In a PERFECT World, there'd Be 1 Belt Per Division & the Consensus # 1 Contender Would ALWAYS Get the Next Title Shot...The 2015 BOXING World is Anything BUT Perfect... Bernard Hopkins had to Come DOWN to 157, to DEFEND his 160lb Title vs. DeLa...Donnie LaLonde Came DOWN to Supermiddle in DEFENSE of his Lightheavy Title, vs. Sugar Ray Leonard... The Sanctioning Body Could VERY EASILY STRIP Cotto, but w/the SIZE of his Purse, the Sanctioning FEE Makes it Worth it to Them... Like it or Not, Miguel Cotto IS the Lineal Middleweight Champion of the World, Until he's Beaten and/or Stripped... REED:mj:
By his OWN Admission, Cotto is NOT a Middleweight...He Weighed 155 for the Martinez Fight, 153.5 for the Geale Fight and the Cotto Bout will Be Well UNDER 160lbs as Well... Again, the Sanctioning Body Can ALWAYS STRIP him...And GGG Can Always Seek BIGGER Fish to Fry, Literally Speaking... REED:dunno:
"Hypothetically", How Would YOU Feel about 2 Brothers Accumulating EVERY Heavyweight Championship Belt there Is and Electing NOT to Square Off, Even Though they've SPARRED Many Times???... REEDopcorn:
So if a sanctioning body doesn't strip somebody of a title everyone should pretend all is well and good? "By his OWN Admission, Cotto is NOT a Middleweight" Has he said he is NOT the middleweight champion? You can't have it both ways.
His Golov hate is letting him have it both ways. You hit the nail on the head, though. If you ask Cotto is he a middleweight, he's allowed to say no. Yet if you ask him is he the middleweight champion of the world, he's allowed to say yes? Fuck kinda rationale is that???? REED's simply looking to justify Cotto's blatant avoidance of Golov. All the more to reason to hope Canelo wins. Ginger will be willing to face the winner of Golov-Lemieux. Cotto wouldn't be willing to fight either one of them. Yet he'd STILL claim to be the middleweight champion, and REED would go on endorsing him simply because he hates Golov. Fuck all that lineal shit, GGG is THE middleweight champion of the world until HE'S beaten.
BTW, as for the actual fight - my HEART wants it to be a competitive tear up. My head says that LeMoo gets destroyed in a few rounds. I said 6 before, but I could see it ending in 3 or 4. I'm glad it's happening though. Glad Team Lemeiux didn't use the excuse of wanting David to get better. They realize that this is as good as he'll ever be and it's time to step in the Lion's Den.
