Poor Jake Shields. The dude has a shot a championship belt in like the 6th different organization he's fought in. And it's actual an interesting match up. Shields relegated to DVR status again tonight.
Thanks for the reminder. I had no idea that was tonight. This is the biggest matchup of the year outside of the UFC. Both of these guys are top 10 fighters. Shields might have a semi-boring style, but he deserves to be in the UFC. They cut him after one loss to a roided up Lombard. He was the only guy I've seen outgrapple Damian Maia. He's beaten Tyron Woodley and Robbie Lawler. It was a boring fight, but he completely outwrestled and dominated Dan Henderson for the Strikeforce title. Palhares should be in the UFC too. It's crazy how good he is at that one thing. Everyone knows he's going for a leg lock, and he still gets it. He would beat a lot of the top 10 UFC welterweights.
Palhares was the first man to submit Jake Shields. Fuck. I thought Jake would win if he could avoid the leg locks.
Palhares is a fucking sick motherfucker who needs to have his fucking legs broken. I cant stand that dirty fuck.
He is a dirty fighter, but he keeps defeating top 10 guys. He's a legit top guy in the division. It's not like he's using dirty tacticts to win. He wins and then continues to do additional damage as a dirty fighter.
Eye gouging is dirty. In the replays you clearly see he was digging his fingertips into Jake's eyes. But fuck, holding on to the arm lock like that should lead to a suspension.
Palhares has a weird flaw as a fighter. He wins fights, but he doesn't know how to stop when his opponent is tapping out. I don't understand it. He's one of the best fighters in the world. He just doesn't know how to stop fighting after he's won.
if he doesn't get cut or suspended indefinitely now, he's probably going to do this again and get himself banned. I doubt bellator will ever sign him and there's no way ufc would ever re-sign him.
WSOF won't do shit to him. They can't afford to. Plus as much of a piece of shit as he is, it's pretty cool having this evil, unpredictable maniac as the champion.
This is a watershed moment for WSOF. They don't have the UFC's risk tolerance or depth. It will be interesting to see how they handle it. They almost can't afford not to market Palhares since he's so hated. His dirty fighting has increased his value as sad as it is to say.
wsof's welterweight division is awful. I'm curious to see how okami looks against fitch at 170. he's another guy who's good at holding guys down and I don't remember the last time he's been submitted. either way, palhares loses when he faces a guy who can strike. shields obviously wasn't that guy.
shields will probably fight for a vacant belt. although palhares fought dirty, the fight was pretty good. had he not been suspended, the rematch would've been highly anticipated. not sure why palhres does what he does considering his success at welter. what a waste.
