Beyond Mayorga not being believable asking just about any fighter who hit them the hardest or who hit harder between two opponents almost always comes with a bullshit answer.

I wouldn't be surprised if more than half the people that were knocked out by Kovalev would say some other fighter punched harder than him. (probably somebody they beat as well)

Yep. I want to believe that the best answer comes from the guy who was hit, but it generally doesn't. Often the person claims the harder puncher is the one they went the distance with, too.

Mayorga might in fact be telling his version of the truth.

There's a difference between thudding power and snapping power.

Cotto has the type of thudding power where every punch you feel, and every left hook hurts.

With Trinidad, guys didn't feel the punches as much - usually because they were already unconscious.

 

Trinidad beat the living shit outta Mayorga in a pathetically one sided fight and stopped him in 9. That after coming off more than a 2-yr layoff.

Mayorga gave a prime Cotto a far tougher fight than he did a faded Tito, and it took Cotto the final round to stop him.

So, go believe what you will...

 

I actually remember Mayorga stunned Cotto a bit in there fight. And that was a close to prime Miguel whereas a retired Tito had virtually no problem in that fight, and he showed power.

 

What is also funny is that Mosley also had trouble with Mayorga and needed the last round to finish him. Of the four, only Tito and ODLH had an easy time, and even with Tito Mayorga lasted a lot longer than everyone thought he would.

 

Yeah Mosley struggled in that fight. Mayorga was giving him the business in that fight much to my surprise.

 

IMO in this rematch Mayo will beat Mosley since Shane is more rusty and looked completely shot in his fight with Ginger whereas Mayo has been doing MMA matches, wrestling, etc.

 

I always wondered how Margarito was able to walk through Cotto's power like nothing......

That doesn't mean he is a big puncher. Most of his stoppages have been by the accumulation of punches, not by one single power punch.

 

Maybe so, but he's a heavy puncher. I is a testament to Margarito's chin that he was able to walk through that firepower twice.

Makes the Mosley stoppage of him all the more impressive.

 

Funny how fighter's always cite those who seem to effect them less, as punching harder than those who seem to effect them more.

 

Tito had to crack that virgin chin so it took him more work to do so. After that, Mayorga wasn't hard to hurt/KO.

 

Yes, fighters are cunts that way. By doing that they are saying, in effect "the night I was knocked out....I was off that night, or too old...had nothing to do with my opponent".
