There was a drive-by shooting at North America's movie theaters box office. It was witnessed by thousands of moviegoers that N.W.A. Straight Outa Compton shoot down Tom Cruise's two week's reign at the top of the box office, but also murdered the new higher budgeted 60's spy actioner The Man From U.N.C.L.E. In a clash of nostalgia filled films, the 90's entry won the top spot with a better than predicted smashing $56 million. The rapper's bio film cost only $29 million to produce and it practically doubled its investment in just three days. This is the best opening ever for film in this genre (Eminem's The 8th Mile had a opening of $51 million). Since 'Compton' had great reviews and such strong opening, it will remain for many weeks reaping (rappin'?) gold (chains?) at the box office.

In the second spot Tom Cruise's Mission Improbable: Rot Notion had a small 39% decline and hanged on that plane for another $17.3 million bringing its three weekends domestic total to $138.4 million.

In da third spot The Man Who Cried U.N.C.L.E Guy Ritchie's $80 million tv spy remake failed to meet its expectations with a poor $13.5 million take. Its so-so reviews are not helping with word of mouth either. Mark another turkey for Armie Hammer in another tv remake. Henry Cavill will rebound with his superhero gig next year.

Falling a dramatic 68% in its second week, the universally panned Fantastic Foul drops to the fourth spot with a lame $8 million bringing its current domestic total to $41.9 million. Worldwide it has accumulated so far $102 million. It only needs $158 million more to show profit.

In the fifth spot The Gift added $6.5 million to its account of $23 million. Not bad for a $5 million budget film.
