Probably, yes. I'm a Jones fan, but I won't defend Ruiz to boost Roy. Ruiz was a scrub. I think Foster would hurt him enough to keep him honest and on the end of his jab. Only way Ruiz wins if there's a ref who allows him to get away with his SHAMEFUL, pussified grappling. A ref who doesn't put up with that shit (like Nady) and Foster wins. Foster wins on sheer ability, because Ruiz had no ability, other than to hump.
Foster was incapable of carrying even 190 pounds and simply could not make the transition... Ruiz was fucking garbage and Foster was a fucking legend but I don't know, I just don't have faith in Foster against even a mediocre 230+ fighter
Ruiz was SHIT...but I don't think Foster can take all the leaning on, clinching, roughhouse shit that Ruiz will be throwing his way.....for 12 rounds? plus taking the occassional 10-12 punches a round...nah..I think Ruiz wears him out...
if Foster actually committed to the weight the way jones and toney did rather than just staying the same size and not cutting weight, probably. The 181lb Foster we've actually seen fight at heavyweight, no.
Exactly. Ruiz had some chin and some heart and wouldn't just go away. A 230lb man with his hands up and some, even mediocre, talent.........gives Foster problems. And you don't want 230lb men giving you problems. The Romance is that the taller Foster slips inside a la Corralles and lands a short left on Johnnys jaw and lays him out but it's not like that in real life. Johnny wins this simply by grinding Skinny Legs down. Toney and Jones were stylistic nightmares for Ruiz. Neither of them came close to stopping him and one of them failed a drugs test soon after.
Yeah Foster would have to begin as he meant to go on, and go on as he had begun. He couldn't just have square meals for a month and take this fight. He might need warm up fights at the weight, a totally new training regimen a la Marciano but without the dietary restrictions, new sparring regimen based on pushing back against heavier guys, the lot.
