1. They get fighters 12 round fights. 2. They get fighters extra time to make defenses. 3. They get fighters a chance to be installed as the main champion if the main champion is stripped. 4. They get fighters the chance to be first in line to fight the main champion. 5. They generate more money for the fighters and the promotion because they get to have a belt on the line. Plenty of other reasons, too.
If you understand what a super champion is, you don't criticize it. Am I supposed to be surprised that you don't know what they are?
Superfluous Bullshit... Fighters Got that SAME Treatment by Merely Being Ranked # 1 in their Weight Class....Only Difference is, there WASN'T a Sanctioning FEE Attached to a # 1 Ranking...But 1nce You're Given a "Title", However MEANINGLESS, Right Then and There, the Sanctioning Body is in your Pockets... Why Do You Think the WBC Created a "Youth" Title to Wrap Around Panchito Bojado's Waist???...Because, @ the Time, he was a Rising Star who Fought Frequently on Network Television, for Sizable PURSES...No MORE, No LESS... If Anybody "Doesn't GET it", it's Clearly YOU, mikE.... REED:hammert:
For Some Reason, REED Attempted to Have a RESPECTFUL Debate w/the Dude, but @ the End of the Day, HE Resorted to Being a DICK 1st...Something he Gets MENSTRUAL About when You, MWS or Others Verbally Assault his Contrarian Bullshit Artistry from the Outset... REED Tried, REED Failed...Lesson Learned... Haters Gon' Hate and IDIOTS Gon' Be IDIOTS... REED:hammert:
Thing is, titles are still coveted by upcoming fighters because they help with promotion and give their holders leverage in negotiations. As long as that's the case, the titles will matter. With haymon's monopolistic model that could easily change over time. But from what I understand he's being sued and may be in violation of the law which forbid managers from also promoting.
Good Luck PROVING it... Obviously, Al Haymon Signs and "Promotes" Fighters...He's as POWERFUL as Bob Arum, Don King or Any Other Promoter has EVER Been, If Not More (Given the Depth of his Stable)....Thing is, the "Manager's" Role in Boxing is a Loophole Haymon has EXPERTLY Exploited... @ NO Point Did Golden Boy Promotions have RIGHTS to Floyd Mayweather, Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia, Lucas Mattttthhhhhhyyyyssssse, Adrien Broner, Errol Spence and Others, yet they "Promoted" Many of their Fights, Technically.... REED has Little Doubt Haymon has a Faceless, yet TANGIBLE Promotional Entity OFFICIALLY Promoting PBC Cards...Hell, Haymon's Hands were All Over Mayweather-Pacquiao, which was Actually Promoted by Floyd, Contractually Speaking... The Gist of REED's Argument w/mikE has NEVER Been about the World Title Itself; it's about the AMOUNT of World Titles and "Champions" Out There...mikE Seems to Be Fine w/4-5 "World Champions" PER Weight Class, Which is Absurd... REED:hammert:
But in a civil case the burden of proof isn't what it is if this were a criminal case. So who knows what happens. But yeah. Absolutely there are too many titles. But the TV networks are complicit because in general they use the titles to promote their events.
You act like making money is a bad thing? Communist or welfare king, Reed? Why do you think sanctioning fees get paid for all of these 'meaningless' titles? Apparently, the people who put the money where their mouths are feel the titles, even the minor ones, are worth it. If they were superfluous, they wouldn't be coveted.
The 'gist' of your argument is off point. Make another thread and I'll be glad (wrong word) to debate. This thread is about PBC making a mistake with regard to titles and their acknowledging, but disregarding of them. It's disingenuous and will backfire.
I think he's guilty. I like a lot of what PBC is doing, but they simply cannot box out the sanctioning bodies successfully, despite what some would like. The PBC champion of the world will NEVER replace or surpass a real champion of the world, at least not for anything other than a 5-minute window when they have a guy like Floyd fighting for it. For all of the monopolistic bullshit PBC is doing, they can't corner the market on 17 weight classes.
Thing is, titles are like currency. Their value is notional which means it depends on their credibility. And there's no doubt their credibility has diminished, slowly but surely.
I think this is what PBC is hoping for. I do doubt that their credibility has diminished, though. In my mind, yes the credibility of the WBA has diminished, but not the others. Certainly not the WBO's.
Yet ANOTHER Example of Where YOU Simply "Don't Get It"... Posters Can Say what they Want to Say about the Overall MEMBERSHIP of Fightbeat, but Ultimately, the DRAW of this Site is the KNOWLEDGE of it's Loooooongtime Members, Most of Whom were SecondsOut or BoxingTalk Alums... Per Capita, there Isn't a Boxing MESSAGEBOARD On Par w/What Fightbeat Possesses...On that Note, REED is Safe in Assuming NO Fightbeater Cares as Much about ANY Particular Sanctioning Body, to the Degree YOU Do about the WBO... The WBO Only GAINED a Shred of "Credibility" by Association w/Prince Naseem...After FAILING to Sanction his Bout w/Barrera, for WHATEVER Reason (AND Creating the "Super" Title Nonsense), it's CLEAR the WBO had their Own Agenda @ Hand, as Opposed to "Educating Fans" or Whatever Other Nonsense your Conjure.... It Appears YOU Need to Re-REED Previous Posts in this Thread, Because REED has Put EVERY Sanctioning Body on Blast, w/Out a Lick of Research Being Required... REED:hammert:
In fact, according to WBA's own homepage, he is the champion http://www.wbanews.com/wba-champions#.Vcl9h_ntmko It seems to me that they indeed are good at misleading people :giggle:. They did has an interim champion at the same time with Wlad as super champion ( I don't remember the name) So the point stands: having a title belt doesn't mean anything unless the fighter has actual credentials with it, mentioning it is useless and nobody (seems that even you) don't care about them enough
The WBA is a clusterfuck. You don't get two world champs. In fact, the WBO just stripped a title from a guy who wanted to fight a 'unification' bout against a WBA 'champ' who wasn't the top champion. That makes sense because that's not a unification bout. The belts provide the credentials, not the other way around, with few exceptions. That's why all 4 belt holders are, invariably, in people's top 10 rankings for a weight class. Let's just do this with fightnews...122-135... 122 WBA/WBO #1; WBC #2; IBF #3; 126 WBO #2; WBC #3; IBF #7; WBA #13; 130 WBA #1; WBC #2; WBO #9; IBF #16; 135 WBC #1; WBO #4; WBA #13; IBF top guy #6 There are a couple of outliers, but this demonstrates the point. The rankings are full of ex-champs in the top 10, as well.
You are talking about Hamed again. Next you'll be talking about Gillette Friday night fights and how shitty announcers are since Cosell died.
I agree with mike. Whether people know who holds what belt or not, there are 4 particular orgs recognized as "real" belts. Pbc is using their credibility to call their fighters champs but they aren't reciprocating the recognition. Also what's to stop pbc from calling the IBO, IBC, WBU etc as champs if no one is paying attention?
Before PBC, this is what boxing used to look like <iframe width="854" height="480" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/SznikbNtgjM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>
