Assuming Shane would have stopped at 140 and after moving up from lightweight, and fought prime Tszyu in 99. Who wins? I gotta favor Mosley, but it's a fun fight.
difficult not to see Philips landing those long looping rights over and over again in my mind, remember that Mosley's reach was 3" longer and way faster, and imagine absolute carnage
Yeah, I think Shane would have stopped Tszyu late tbh, but Tszyu would have been difficult for him early on.
Probably favor Mosley ... I think his handspeed is a major problem and he was very sturdy, a strong guy himself... Tszyu liked to outmuscle guys and I don't think he could outmuscle Mosley Tszyu could always surprise you though, when he committed to a more defensive approach, he could be really effective... If I were in his corner, that's what I'd want him to do... I think it would give him a better shot... I still think ultimately it's about not being able to stop enough of Mosley's punches from getting through... Mosley would be my bet
Thing is mosley's defense was never much. And tszyu has the ultimate weapon to combat hand-speed and that is a lethal combination of speed of his own, handspeed and accuracy. So while mosley's speed and strength would certainly be a handful, and perhaps insurmountable for tszyu, I think tszyu brings to the table some things that should raise questions about mosley's chances as well.
Tszyu stop Mosley? GTFOH! It's moments like this that Tszyu gets overrated. Mosley had BY FAR the better chin of the two. If anybody's getting stopped it's Tszyu.
Besides, if Mosley knows he's in danger of being stopped, he stops fighting and starts being friends, so therefore he can't be knocked out
Shane became softer as he got older. In his youth, he was a pretty ruthless fighter in there. Against Tszyu, Shane's fighting spirit should NOT be the one questioned. Tszyu was a front runner. Not a heartless bitch the way Mex portrays him, but yeah, Tszyu's spirit could be broken. In a tough fight, Shane is more willing to fight through adversity than Tszyu.
I don't see any evidence that Mosley became softer... The Forrest fight was the first time where his style wasn't working, where his speedy slugger routine wasn't going to get the job done and he showed no willingness to take risks to try and turn the tide once it became evident
I disagree with that. Shane never gave up in the Forrest fight. Every time he tried to mount a comeback though Forrest just had too much for him. Forrest pretty much never pressed the issue as long as Shane didn't force him too and after getting hurt in that fight several times and damn near getting stopped late, it came to a point where Shane just couldn't win. It was after this fight Mosley was never the same guy, but before he met Forrest Shane was never friendly in the ring to guys he fought. He always tried to destroy them. Even in the first ODLH fight after a headbutt they touched gloves and even then Shane didn't do it in a friendly manner, just a respectable one. You have to be careful to not confuse things from the last part of a guys career as being a part of his whole career simply because the last part is easier to remember or fresher in your mind. MexicanWeddingShirt does that when he talks about Trinidad.
Yeah, whilst Mosley was never Tyson/Duran type ruthless, in his lightweight days he was far from a nice, touch gloves every minute kinda guy. He was in there to take guys out, and his body attack back then was tremendous. As he got older, more and more he abandoned that body attack.
I lean towards a late stoppage win for Mosley. Tszyu would have success with his quick straight right hands, he had good timing on it, but overall Shane's speed and power would be too much. I think Shane would land that right hand a lot.
Lol at Tzsyu Koing Mosley. talk about being blinded by nationality. Mosley destroy him. Just a different caliber of fighter
Tszyu wasn't exactly the mentally toughest chap himself. Does anybody see a young Shane getting his shit pushed in by Philips? I think Tszyu fans to this day sweep the Philips fight under the rug.
I pick Mosley. The size, strength, and hand speed are the major differences. Tszyu had more craft, and a better ring IQ, but he was hittable and that favors Mosley big time. I see a late rounds stoppage.
