The first serious attempt to bring to the big screen a big budgeted Spiderman film was in the 90's when James Cameron convinced Carolco films to acquire the rights to Marvel's webslinger. They did and Cameron wrote a script treatment, preproduction paintings were done and was in the process of casting when everything came down to a screeching halt as Carolco found out they were not the only ones who had rights to Spidey as Sony and other companies claimed having exclusive rights. A long legal battle started, Carolco went bankrupt and Cameron moved on to his next project, Titanic. For many years fanboys have lamented of the great film we were denied by fate and the aborted James Cameron Spiderman project acquired legendary status...until recently when his script treatment became public. And, oh boy, we should be thankful it was Sam Raimi's and not James Cameron's the version we finally got! That script was George Lucas-like plain AWFUL!! It made so many changes that it was not only barely recognizable, but the dialogue was terrible, horrible, like if it was written by a 13 year old!! Anyway here are the actors Cameron wanted (some good choices, some really in the 'what-the-fuck?' department: Edward Furlong as Peter Parker Arnold Schwarzenegger as Professor Octopus (I know is 'Doctor', but in the script is 'professor') Lance Henriksen as Norman Osbourne Leonardo DiCaprio as Harry Osbourne Drew Barrymore as Gwen Stacey Nikki Cox as Mary Jane Watson R. Lee Ermey as J.J. Jameson
Many people rightly think that DiCaprio could have been Peter Parker and Furlong Harry Osborne. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/fOgIljJK_lE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe>
Lance Henrikson as Harry Osbourne might have worked....as would R. Lee Emey as JJJ. But, yeah, 'Prof-Ock'? ::
and the "Oky Doky" was supposed to become Arnold's newest catching phrase. and Peter Parker was going to be in college, not high school, Professor Ock was also bitten by a radioactive spider and was demanding to be called "Spiderman" alm:
