The 8: 1. Duran 2. Whitaker 3. Chavez 4. Mosley 5. Floyd 6. Arguello 7. Ortiz 8. Camacho Round 1: Duran over Camacho: Pretty much all Duran after 3-4 rounds. Whitaker over Ortiz: Carlos has some moments, and wins a few rounds, but overall Whitaker outboxes him very clearly. Chavez over Arguello: This one would be AWESOME! Close fight, but I just think JCC has a tad bit too much for Arguello down the stretch and wins a decision. Mosley over Floyd: Sly would have a stroke over this one, but I feel 135 Mosley had what it took to defeat Floyd. Shane's handspeed is a bit too much for Floyd, and he wins a close decision. Round 2: Duran over Mosley: Mosley would put up a helluva fight, but Duran is just too much for Shane. Really at any weight he's too much for Shane. Duran by UD, with Shane copping a pretty bad beating down the stretch. Whitaker over Chavez: At 135 it's a closer fight than it was in 93, but I still don't see how Chavez actually WINS. Whitaker still outboxes him. Round 3: Duran over Whitaker: RAZOR close, I go back and forth on this one all the time. Some days I say Whitaker, but on this day I'll say Duran pulls it out in a disputed decision. So close of a fight that there'd have to be a rematch. And in the rematch I think Whitaker wins.
Duran vs Camacho- Duran via UD. He'd probably score a knockdown on Camacho as well. Whitaker vs Ortiz- Whitaker via UD. Competitive but Pea is too crafty and smart. Chavez vs Arguello- Narrow decision victory for Chavez. This would be the best action fight of the bunch IMO. Mayweather vs Mosley- Mayweather via split decision, and he'd have a lot of scary moments, especially down the stretch. I think his ring IQ allows him to just edge it, though. Semis Duran vs Mayweather- Duran via clear UD. Duran's unpredictability and cat like quickness on the inside make this Castillo x 10 for Floyd and though he'd have his moments, it wouldn't be enough. Whitaker vs Chavez- Whitaker via close UD. This one is much closer than their 93 welterweight fight as you mentioned. I think Chavez stays with Whitaker and gives as good as he gets, but I like Sweet Pea's defense and counter punching to carry the day. Finals Duran vs Whitaker- Duran via split decision. Controversial as hell. I think Duran's hand speed and controlled wildness as I like to call it, would get preferred over the mastery and precision of Whitaker. However, this is one that could go either way. Whitaker was better than Esteban, so we have to keep that in mind. Nevertheless, this would be some fight.
Round 1: Duran vs. Camacho: Duran Whitaker vs. Ortiz: Whitaker Chavez vs. Arguello: Chavez very close Mosley vs. Floyd: Mayweather, OBVIOUSLY. Shane was a speedy slick slugger, Floyd is the multi-dimensional master boxer. Round 2: Duran vs Mayweather: Close fight. Duran more aggressive but Floyd's style limits his offensive output. Duran SD (So that fightbeat doesn't suffer a collective coronary) Whitaker vs. Chavez: Whitaker Round 3: Duran vs Whitaker: Duran SD
There's nothing to suggest Floyd is an OBVIOUS choice over Mosley at 135. The Mosley of 98 was a FAAARRRRRRRRR different fighter than what Floyd faced in 2010.
I think would Drago's Manager would have put it like this: "It is a matter of style. Evolution. Isn't it, gentlemen? Mayweather is the most versatile lightweight ever. This other man has not the defense, the intelligence, or the *genetics* to win. It is physically impossible for this limited man to win. Mayweather is a look at the future!"
You know damn well age is relative. Floyd was past his peak in 2010, but still at the tail end of his prime. Mosley was SHOT! Big difference.
In the fight just before Mayweather, Shane didn't appear shot. He had destroyed a prime Margarito. You can't call a guy shot just based on the fact Floyd dominated him. I agree that Shane wasn't at his best...but "shot"? RIDICULOUS! If anything he was shot, AFTER Floyd beat him up.
Round one Duran - Camacho Whitaker - Ortiz Chavez - Arguello Mosley - Floyd Round 2 Floyd - Camacho Whitaker - Arguello Final Whitaker Very close fights all they way and the end result depends a lot about the pairings. With these pairs I could definitely see Chavez over Arguello for example too. Earlier I did pick Mosley over Floyd too, but I have grown to appreciate Floyd's intelligence
Agreed, plus if we try to look at their careers completely subjectively, then they are pretty much equal
You're nuts, Shane was obviously shot. Yeah he looked great against Margarito but that was just a going to the well one last time fight. He was spent against Floyd after the first few rds and couldn't even let his hands go. I know Shane was a sucker for top boxers but except for one round, Floyd beat him like he was a child.
The Mayweather fight was 15 months of inactivity after the Margarito fight, too. Thats not nothing when you're 38. So yeah as has been said before a 38 year old after 15 months of inactivity. Your classic Floyd win. :wack:
Most people either look "shot" or "green" when they fight Floyd. Roy Jones used to suffer from the same "problem". People said Floyd took advantage of an old ring worn Cotto, then Cotto goes on to stop MIDDLEWEIGHT Gabriel Martinez, who had beaten Kelly Pavlik, Paul Williams and others. JMM was small and old and didn't belong at Welterweight....he goes on to knock Pacquiao THE FUCK OUT..the same Pacquiao who stopped Cotto, Hatton, De La Hoya and others. So of course Shane was SHOT against Floyd. However the fact is that Floyd beat him the fuck up...because Mayweather is that good (still underrated).

The Cotto win stands. i think it might've been fair to speculate at the time how much Cotto had left but that question has been answered. Mosley OTOH was basically done. DLH was way, way past his best. Pacquiao looks to be basically done.
