What happens? He's all about timing and accuracy, and in particular the way he deliberately loops his shots at specific angles and turns the wrist to get around a guard, very nice. But while Lemieux got owned, there were moments when he moved enough, consistently, to make Golovkin miss and miss again.....I mean, imagine if Lemieux had nice long shots and landed at 40% rather than 15%? Different fight, probably same result. Just thinking out loud....no one is unbeatable.
Anyway his next fight....if it's Alvarez, Canelo get's hauled out in a body bag. Cotto? Does a bit better I feel, much smarter boxer with more tricks.
I see teh opposite. I see Cotto getting strrrrrrrrrretttched! I think Cotto gives him a great deal to think about in the first two rounds but ultimately isn't big enough or tough enough to last very long with this Kazakhstani monster. Canelo will last longer and put up more resistance as he is younger, faster, tougher and bigger (compared with Cotto). Plus Canelo is better than given credit for. He can't beat GGG, but he'll make GGG work hard for the victory.
GGG isn't a huge Middleweight, so if a large rangy Middleweight comes along, with good boxing ability, GGG could be beaten. I think a Bernard Hopkins would have beaten him, for example. Someone of that combination of size and skill.
I agree with almost everything, but I do think that Canelo is very underrated and he has a good chance of pulling an upset.
Canelo has a slightly better chance than LePeux had. I gave LePeux no chance. Canelo has a little chance.
Neither Cotto nor Canelo has a prayer. Only difference is Canelo is fresher than Cotto, naturally bigger, and has a better chin, so he'll last longer while taking a beating. Cotto's brittle ass gets stretched earlier than LeMoo.
PLEEAASSEE explain to me how in Holy Hell can Canelo upset Golov? Lemieux is a bigger puncher than Canelo, and he nailed Golov with a few solid shots and Golov didn't blink. Golov will walk right through Ginger. Ginger is also SHORTER than Lemieux, and we saw how short Lemieux looked and how much Golov's range bothered him. Canelo needs divine intervention to beat Golov.
I'm not sure that canelo is shorter than Lemieux. Have you seen them side by side? They're around the same height methinks....half an inch difference at most. I agree that GGG would beat Canelo, but Canelo is a MUCH smarter fighter than Lemieux. It wasn't just range that bothered Lemieux it was more to do with the fact that the French Canadian doesn't have even a basic boxing brain in that head of his. I have to agree with lederman on another thing (Lederman was ON TOP FORM that night btw)...Lemieux had NO FUCKING GAMEPLAN? Canelo is better able to deal with teh boxing than Lemieux was...shit Canelo hanged with Trout...and Trout is a good boxer. Btw...power isn't the only thing that keeps punchers honest...speed and crispness of counters is equally if not more effective. Canelo will give GGG more things to think about than did Lemieux. I do agree with you though that it's hard to envision Canelo actually beating GGG. Triple G seems to do everything better.
Golovkin has the bad luck (or good) of being a MW champ during one of the shittiest (if not the worst) years of his division. There's absolutely no one in there to pose a challenge. He should move up if he's serious about his legacy, but I think he's after the money for now.
Canelo has little chance of beating GGG, but will likely do better than lemieux since he's a better fighter than Lemieux in many ways. Hearns? Hearns believed in his power. He'd start off boxing GGG and that would give him success, but GGG would force him into a firefight by stalking and attacking and in such a fight the guy with the better chin prevails....and early. Hearns is NOT taking too many GGG shots, but i think GGG can take Hearns' punches much better in comparison. I'm not saying that Canelo is better than Hearns, it's just a different type of fight.
I'm not saying that Canelo had "supreme ring IQ". I'm saying it's better than Lemieux's. Secondly....no one looks "clever" against Mayweather.
"Btw...power isn't the only thing that keeps punchers honest...speed and crispness of counters is equally if not more effective. Canelo will give GGG more things to think about than did Lemieux" - Sly. So the crispness of Canelo's shots would make GGG think twice, yet he walks through Tommy Hearns like nothing? Makes perfect sense to me....
BTW - Canelo IS shorter than Lemieux. Lemieux is 5'9. Canelo was slightly shorter than Floyd. Canelo, at BEST, is 5'8.
Canelo is too stubby and slow on his feet to deal with GGG's jab. His t-Rex arms give Golovkin lots of options in exchanges.
Ai yi yi! Forget it pal, you're being wilfully ignorant. Hearns will MORE than make GGG think twice, just saying that Hearns will commit more to a shootout with GGG than Canelo would. Hearns will hurt GGG far more than Canelo would, but GGG will get more opportunities to hurt Hearns than he would Canelo (because Canelo would be more careful as he's not as in love with his power), plus I believe Canelo is more durable than Hearns was.
Yeah but you're the same guy that said years ago ('cause I remember the weirdest shit) that Hopkins and Echols were the same height and that Hopkins was much shorter than Hearns. So with height we can't go by personal opinion, just by facts. Canelo has a short look, but maybe he has an oversized head and that's why. By contrast Larry Holmes looked taller than he actually was because he had a small head. According to Boxrec, both are 5'9". Until we see them side by side we can't tell who's taller. Shit...Mosley is listed at 5'9" and Mayweather at 5'8" but in the ring Floyd looked taller.
