I really really don't see the logic here. Foster lost to Terrel, Spinks to Tyson etc and nobody in their right mind would hold these against them. Charles was both way past it and in wrong division
As some said, nobody called these guys the goat. And i kind of have a way higher opinion of Tyson has a.fighter than marciano. Imo, spinks would have easilly beaten marciano
Specious. First, Marciano (who he only lost to the first time by contentious decision, way past his best) is only his 'biggest fight' because heavyweight is always the most prestigious - Moore is a greater p4p fighter than Marciano and he beat him 4 times straight. Second, if Ray Robinson's 'biggest' ever fight had happened to come when he was 33 against an ATG and he'd lost it by close decision would he actually have been a lesser fighter? Or just a less storied/famous fighter? The two aren't the same thing. Charles' resume is the greatest in boxing history!
Bad example that misses the point. Robinson started off at 147lbs Ezzard Charles was a LightHeavyweight and Marciano was a Cruiserweight and not a particularly big one at that. The GOAT, unless he is a heavyweight SHOULD show the ability to dominate at higher weight classes as well. Why? Because if MANY other guys could have done it, he should be able to do it as well.
I dunno bout that. He'd have a lot of issues with Spinks' awkwardness, his weird movement, and his great jab. But he WOULD catch up to him eventually. Spinks had a pretty solid chin, but I don't see it standing up to the Susie Q. Rocky flattens him at some point.
Marciano was all business from the opening bell and Spinks had bad legs. I can't see Spinks keeping Marciano off of him for long....or leading in the fight.
Ricardo Lopez and Carlos Ortiz are both underrated. Esteban DeJesus comes to mind, if he wasn't mentioned before.
Off topic, but I've never forgiven Spinks for the cowardice displayed against Mike Tyson. What a cunt. I know Tyson was scary, but Spinks was an unbeaten fighter and should have been a proud and confident champion. I watched that fight live and I'm telling you there was a shot from Spinks' dressing room before he was scheduled to come out where he didn't want to come out and his team were around him trying to build up his courage and were virtually begging him not to cancel at the at minute, then they noticed the HBO cameras and had them sent out of the room and closed the door. Spinks was terrified! When he did eventually decide to come and fight he would even look at the ring during the ring walk but just kept looking around and forcing himself to talk to his people in order to calm his nerves. He went into that ring to get knocked out in the 1st round and collect his paycheck....and I don't care what anyone says. Sure Tyson landed punches on him, but Spinks was always going to let himself be knocked out early so he didn't have to suffer. CC (Cowardly Cunt)
I the analogy's perfectly sound & you're reaching. Charles started at middleweight. 2 wins over charlie burley no less.
