Pretty self explanatory. Pressure fighters/attackers who were the best at cutting off the ring. The best: 1. Lightweight Duran: Obvious choice. Lightweight Duran had lightning quick feet and great footwork and could cut the ring and close the distance like none other. 2. Chavez: Not as quick on his feet as Duran, and not as athletic as Duran, but had SUPERB offensive footwork and balance, and pretty underrated footspeed. Unlike Duran, whom cut the ring and distance immediately, Chavez was more methodical about it, but just as good at it. 3. Tyson: There's a reason why the old adage says you had to FIGHT Tyson to win, and couldn't just box him. It's because he was too quick on his feet to move on, and knew how to cut the ring. He modeled his ring cutting technique after Duran. 4. Young Foreman: Similar to Chavez in that he was perceived to be slow, which fooled his opponents into thinking he wasn't quick enough on his feet to get to them. He was. Foreman closed the distance, and cut the ring very well and quickly, which is why Ali had to employ the rope-a-dope. 5. Tszyu: Tszyu was superb at cutting the ring, and had very quick feet coming forward, especially when he was young. Others?
Disagreed about Tszyu, he had way too much trouble cutting the ring against Mitchell and Leija for me to consider him among the best ever at that. And While I seem to be mentionning him in every thread, Qawi deserves a mention.
I can see that. Maybe "cutting off" the ring isn't the best description. Tszyu was very good at fighting guys who tried to utilize movement. Big gaps in space didn't bother him much but he wasn't necessarily trying to corner opponents.
I think you're remembering Mitchell having more success against Tszyu than he really did. Tszyu DID cut the ring on Mitchell. It took him a few rounds, and Mitchell landed some good shots, but Tszyu cut him off and was breaking him down.... then Mitchell quit. But very well, I'll replace Tszyu on the list with Marciano. Rock is in the same boat as Chavez, in that he didn't have great handspeed, but he was deceptively quick in cutting the ring.
