I agree those guys are not as good as canelo. But I still think cotto surprised a lot of people with the power he showed in those fights. Especially given they were bigger men and it had been a while since he had shown that kind of power. Plus it happened to coincide with his move to roach. For me, it is at least something to consider alongside the conventional wisdom that canelo's youth wins.

Timing more than power. Roach has Cotto throwing shots at the right moment compared to previously. He's setting guys up more.

His shots are harder to see, and that's good news for his ability to fuck Canelo up. I think his power is the same really.

Which punchers has alvarez really fought at 154lbs? Two guys who are slow as shit and ruined each other?

Right. Of course. Referring to cotto's ability to hurt his opponent.

None really. I just can't get past the height and reach advantage. Plus Canelo is pretty much a straight puncher. I think he'll be able to keep Cotto at a comfortable distance.

Cotto has fought pretty well vs taller opponents since his early years. And it's not like Canelo is 6ft tall.

I admire your patriotism. I really do.

However, y'all are living in dreamland if you think Cotto's going to survive Canelo's attack. Canelo has almost every conceivable advantage in this one....once he starts to land his bombs it's all over.

It's not patriotism. I'm not impressed by Canelo like you guys are. Cotto has the experience over him and he's still close to his physical prime. Cotto lost to Pacquiao, a beast of a man and lost to Trout, a horrible stylistical matchup for him. Both left handed. (I don't count Marga-cheato's first fight for obvious reasons). Canelo's advantage lies in his handspeed and nothing else. If you see closely, he's a bit slow footed and spends too much energy in the early rounds. Cotto can pace himself way better and his jab will make the difference.

Again, I'm not blinded by patriotism in boxing. Hell, I don't even like Verdejo.

    Cool.

Truthfully i don't mind being wrong in this one as I like Cotto. I just think Cotto is the past and Canelo is the future, this is a passing of the torch type of fight like Marciano-Louis.

True but he's not 25 anymore.

I'd love for Cotto to win, I just don't see it. Especially after refusing to cough up $1.1million. ($800,000 to GGG, $300,000 to the WBC). Let's say Cotto wins then Canelo and GGG fight for the vacant WBC title. That fights means nada.

When Canelo wins it's gonna have little to do with him being taller/rangier. Canelo only has an inch on Cotto in height, and BOTH have alligator arms. Plus, it's not Canelo's style to win fights from a distance anyway. If he tries to BOX with Cotto, it gives Mig his best chance of winning. Cotto, even now, has a better jab and better timing than Alvarez.

Canelo will win cause he's younger, stronger, and has a better chin, not cause he's taller.

Oh that chin that held up against the likes of Judah, Mayorga, Torres, Bailey? Some of the hardest punchers in the sport at the time he faced them?

Hey bro, if I'm wrong then I will be the first to come back and admit it.

Also, I'm far from 100% sure Cotto is gonna win this fight. Notice I picked him via split decision with controversy.

If Canelo wins, I will NOT be shocked at all.

The reason I am slightly leaning towards Cotto here, is mostly because Canelo fights in SPOTS. He takes a lot of breaks and thus he gives his opponents a lot of chances to pile on points and win rounds.

If Canelo has the stamina to pressure Cotto Margarito style, and able to do it for as many rounds as it takes, here it from me, COTTO IS TOAST.

I just have my doubts about Canelo being able to do that.

i think Cottos versatility and movement will win him enough rounds to win...some rounds will be a war, others will be Plan B

Canelo can beat up people who stand in front of him, big deal...i dont think Cotto's camp is planning a 12round war

I think the movement will give canelo problems and then eventually get caught with a nasty shot on the chin.

I aint going to beat around the bush. I really want Cotto to win. Realistically Cotto only has a few fights left at most. Depending on the outcome of Saturday Night it may be his last fight. One thing is for sure, we are going to find out exactly how much he has left real soon.
