Picture, if you will, these two guys in the ring against one another. Benn is 5'9", Floyd is 5'8". Benn is same height as Canelo and Mosley...and we've seen these guys in the ring with Floyd. Many will say that Benn is simply too big for Mayweather and too powerful. I will point out that there exists many a precedent for a difference in class trumping size difference. Precedents: Dempsey-Willard Louis-Carnera Haye-Valuev Holyfield-Old Foreman Jones-Ruiz The list........goes on. I will also point out that there exists a precedent for a former lightweight to challenge and hold his own against a career Middleweight. Precedent: Hagler - Duran Therefore.....considering the difference in class between Mayweather and Benn is VAST, Benn doesn't fight tall, Benn gets hit frequently, Benn is easy to stun, Mayweather is elusive...a.ring general, good movement, ATG defensive and offensive reflexes, shoulder roll, Benn throws haymakers almost exclusively...........unless you have the boxing IQ of an ape you have NO CHOICE but to agree with me that Floyd Mayweather wins this fight going away. Benn only has a puncher's chance....and we all know that a puncher's chance really means no chance...especially when Mayweather has a dependable chin and ATG defense. Size difference is almost irrelevant in a matchup like this when height and reach is similar...simply because Floyd will not be there to hit. It'll be a one-side motherfucking virtuoso shutout Who's with me?
Money May is a much better fighter, without any shadow of a doubt. Problem is we haven't see how well he would carry 160 lbs, not to mention how he'd react if caught with a true 160 pound punch. He's been hurt at 140 and 147 before against guys who aren't truly devastating punchers. But Benn is... Despite the gap in skill and class, Benn's size, strength, and power is something Floyd has never dealt with before in a FIGHT... Different from sparring.
Benn would have ZERO respect for Floyd's punching power. That being said, if Benn drops Floyd he could get DQ'd
It'd be an interesting fight. Gun to my head I probably pick Floyd....but there's some cut off point for everyone where size & strength overwhelm skill - Benn might just have too much power.
Mayweather Jr was obviously much better, P4P, and it is conceivable that Mayweather Jr potshots his way to a points win. But it's hard to imagine that Benn doesn't catch him with something that ends the fight. MTF
Floyd gets stopped. He'd shoulder roll, get knocked sideways by his own shoulder then get KTFO. This is the epitome of nuthugging. Floyd made his name at welter mainly fighting former (or current) lightweights and junior welters. He made a green Canelo fight at a catchweight. Yet were supposed to seriously entertain him fighting a full fledged KO punching middleweight.
There is a precedent for this (many in fact)...Duran started off at lightweight and pushed Hagler all the way at Middleweight. Mayweather is as big as Duran was and Benn is nowhere near as good as Hagler. Also, like I said,m history has proven the fact that a large enough gap in talent trumps an edge in size. So how is this the epitome of nuthugging?
