Margarito was credible and Cotto looked great coming into the fight. It's not that unreasonable to have put him on.
Ahhh, so fame should be the basis for the HOF. I guess Butterbean and Adrien Broner should get in then. I mean, Broner is popular and he's technically a FOUR DIVISION champion, why not put AB in one day? Bottom line is Gatti was a mediocre fighter and doesn't deserve to be in the HOF when literally COUNTLESS fighters in history who were several levels better than Gatti who aren't in. Gatti was good at getting punched in the face, not sure how that warrants a HOF spot.
I don't think Gatti should have been inducted (let alone first ballot) but the problem with that line of reasoning is that you could look at any HOF and ask "who is the worst one in there?" Then simply say anybody better than that guy is deserving.
Well...........it's called the Hall of FAME, so yeah. I mean, it;s not called the "Hall of Merit" or the "Hall of Good Boxers". Sometimes you have to call a book by its real title. I've never read a book called "For whom the Bell Rings", by Ernest Hemingway, or the "African-American of the Narcissus", by Joseph Conrad, or "The Importance of Being Up For It And Motivated", by Oscar Wilde. Hall of FAME...you need to be FAME-OUS. "Mr Zhivago" and "Lawrence of Santa Barbara" just don't have the same ring to them.
Butterbean and Broner are terrible comparisons. Nobody ever heard of broner, Butterbean was never a champion. And you conveniently ingnored the FOTY point, which IS important. Gatti was a champion (titlist at least) in more than one division was involved in the unforgettable Gatti-Ward Trilogy as well as other crazy good fights. I mean you don't participate in FOTY, FOUR motherfucking times, and get excluded from the Hall of Fame! Ken Norton...now that's a guy that shouldn't be there. Motherfucker never won a championship fight in his life!
Ken Norton, who's resume is literally LIGHT YEARS better than Gatti's doesn't belong in the HOF? Hold up! I forgot! How foolish of me! I know why you're defending Gatti being in the HOF... Nevermind.
Please. Floyd has nothing to do with this. However.....hold up....how foolish of me......Floyd beating him down with ease is probably the reason why you don't think he belongs. Makes sense now. If Duran had beat him down...you would be saying something different. Nevermind.
Nope. I don't care if Duran slaughtered him, I still wouldn't be singing his praises. No man who loses to Angel Manfredy and back-to-back to Ivan Robinson in thier primes deserves the HOF. Out of all of Gatti's GREAT wars, he only actually WON one of them - the Wilson Rodriguez fight. He lost Robinson 1, which was a great fight. And he lost Ward 1, which was a great fight. Gatt-Ward 2 & 3 were not great fights, IDGAF what Ring Magazine says.
Most other sports are consistent with their standards and if a weak link makes it in its treated as a lesson learned. The boxing HOF is just a downward spiral. From I've heard after they started it and inducted all the established greats they ran out of inductees waiting for more greats to be eligible and they started letting in name fighters and titlist that shouldn't be in just as something to do. Fritzie Zivic is one stand out.
