"We look at Jesus, we see a white with blond hair and blue eyes. We look at all the angels, we see white with blond hair and blue eyes. Now, I'm sure if there's a heaven in the sky and the colored folks die and go to heaven, where are the colored angels? They must be in the kitchen preparing the milk and honey. We look at Miss America, we see white. We look at Miss World, we see white. We look at Miss Universe, we see white. Even Tarzan, the king of the jungle in black Africa, he's white!" - Muhammad Ali

I like both the lead actors, but they could have fuckin' done without the Harlequin romance novel cover shot pictures. I've got a bad feeling about this one. My favorite Tarzan is still the insanely dark Christopher Lambert version.

It's actually a pretty sad movie, with lots of dark violence. Might be too slow for some though.

Same guy who made "Chariots Of Fire".

Greystoke: The Legend Of Tarzan Lord of The Apes is the most realistic Tarzan movie ever made which is simultaneously both the film's main forte' and its biggest downfall. It works as a drama as the tragic life of an orphan wild boy, but fails to deliver the Tarzan we expect as a heroic character. I love this film and have watched it many times, but its second half feels more like 'Masterpiece Theater' meets 'Downtown Abbey' and goes spiraling down toward tragedy than a satisfying conclusion. This is the role that put Christopher Lambert in the spotlight and his first starring role. Still his best film. The premise of this new film sounds eerily like a logical follow up to the events at the end of 'Greystoke'.

The movie is better then the trailer. :nono:

The more I see older trailers, the more I realize how shit they were. It's a wonder anybody went to the movies back then.

Nowadays they can take a piece of shit like "Battle LA", and make it look like an All-time classic piece of art in the trailer.

Looks more action-packed than I thought (too much CGI too).

If you watch Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan Lord of The Apes you'll see a similar showdown, but Tarzan's title tells you who eventually gets the upper hand.

As much as my 7 year old self loved the 1966 tv series, even then I found the college educated dialogue of Ron Ely's Tarzan unrealistic. Also that the show unashamed use of Johnny Weissmuller's yell was really annoying. Of course no one, I repeat NO ONE has ever come close to Weissmuller's Tarzan.
Ron Ely was the #15 actor to play Tarzan. He was also the tallest until now (6' 4") as Skarsgard is around the same height. Ely had his blonde hair dye black for the pilot episode, but in subsequent episodes remained with his natural hair color. It was pointed out that Ely's physical appearance in the initial episode and his dialogue was the closest to the Edgar Rice Burrough's description of the character.

Ron Ely in the pilot for 'Tarzan'
