NEW YORK -- Conor McGregor, who won the UFC featherweight title Saturday night with a one-punch knockout of Jose Aldo, is going to be a rich man by the time his UFC career is done.

At least that's the prediction of UFC chairman and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta, who said Tuesday night that he thought McGregor would be "our first $100 millionaire."
Fertitta said that number, which assumes McGregor will continue to dominate, would be from fight earnings, bonuses and pay-per-view revenue and would not include his outside income from the likes of Monster, his autograph deal with Fanatics or entertainment deals. On Tuesday, TMZ reported McGregor was offered a part in Vin Diesel's "XXX" sequel.

Filings with the Nevada Athletic Commission reveal McGregor was paid $500,000 for the fight against Aldo. He also gets a $40,000 bonus paid by the UFC for the Reebok outfitting deal and a $50,000 bonus from the UFC for the performance of the night. In addition, he'll get a cut of the revenue from what is expected to be more than one million pay-per-view buys.
Fertitta, who declined to predict a final number for McGregor's earnings Saturday, said McGregor's quick work of Aldo "left people wanting more."
McGregor's next opponent has yet to be announced. Some suggest it will be the winner of this weekend's lightweight title fight between <a href="http://espn.go.com/mma/fighter/_/id/2479918/donald-cerrone" target="_blank">Donald Cerrone and <a href="http://espn.go.com/mma/fighter/_/id/2335687/rafael-dos-anjos" target="_blank">Rafael dos Anjos. Former lightweight champ <a href="http://espn.go.com/mma/fighter/_/id/2335694/frankie-edgar" target="_blank">Frankie Edgar, who knocked out Chad Mendes in a featherweight bout last Friday, is another option. Given the way McGregor sent Aldo packing, it seems to be a long shot that Aldo would get another chance right away.

The sky is the limit if McGregor keeps winning. With his top shelf trash talking game, the dude could break the bank.

Not that I care, but I was expecting him to pocket a lot more than 500k guarantee. I wonder how much he gets from the ppv.

That's not much for boxing, but that seems like it would be a record for an MMA fight. If it's true.

    no.
If he gets 5$ per ppv, 1 million buy would ''only'' result in 5 millions, and approx 1,5 millions gives him in the range Gatti said. That gives him a hell of a payday. It should end the lame "ufc fighters are exploited" complaints.

I hope this becomes a new trend in MMA. Most MMA fighters don't make shit, not enough to live on without working a second job. It would be good to see people at the top level of the sport make the kind of money that top athletes make in other sports.

Top boxers have made more than that ever since I was a little kid. Not many, but the guys at the very top. Mike Tyson was making 20 million a fight in the 80s. Elite MMA champions like Anderson Silva were making under a million a fight fairly recently.

Makes me laugh when people complains that 1 million dollars for a fight is not enough. The real problem with the UFC (and boxing) is not what the top level guys makes, but what the sub-elite guys make.

I agree. It's bullshit that guys who dedicate their whole lives to combat sports make so little. Only the best fighters make it to the UFC in the first place. Low level UFC guys make less than cashiers at McDonalds or Walmart.

Just because it could feel a lot worse does not mean your aren't getting fucked. I don't know if $5 per ppv is that good or not, but I believe it's still below what a headliner boxer would get in the same situation. Even if it's only $1 million below, that's getting fucked.

That's a good point. Perhaps all of them added up got pretty comparable to a boxing ppv card. As we know, we'll never know. Part of the UFC model is obfuscation. I don't blame them for that, I just don't give them the benefit of any doubt because of it.

I guess you are one of these persons that feel it's important to fight to augment the pay of millionnaires athletes. Using the word exploited for a guy that makes more than a million a fight is absurd, and it really dilute it's meaning

This is an easy thing to say for someone who isn't getting exploited.

    Two definitions of exploit are:

use (a situation or person) in an unfair or selfish way.

benefit unfairly from the work of (someone), typically by overworking or underpaying them.

Either fits in this situation. I don't think your understanding of what it means to be exploited is technically correct nor a majority viewpoint. The poor can be exploited; the wealthy can be exploited.

If your viewpoint is correct, you should be able to find a definition that says something like these definitions, but then adds "especially when referring to the poor" or something like that. If you care enough to look and find something like that, then I'll reconsider, but it won't change what I wrote since I didn't use 'exploit' in the first place, you did.
