This is Tenacious D, the last band I saw in concert. :)

They've been hosting a comedy / music festival in the LA area every October for the last few years. They're awesome. They're fueled by Satan too, only it's a joke and not a devotional thing like with Ghost and Behemoth.

Army of Lovers came out with this song Crucified in 1991 when I was in high school. The original video was on Beavis and Butthead (favorite tv show at the time). Army of Lovers might have been the most popular Swedish band in the US at the time.

I'm hoping Ghost will become the most popular Swedish band in the US now. I've developed a slight man-crush for the singer. No homo. He just has the most beautiful voice, and the kind of musical talent I haven't heard in a long time. I haven't fallen in love with a band like this since maybe 10 years ago with Devin Townsend and Strapping Young Lad.

The first half of this song is so chill and mellow. This is the happiest and most loving song I've ever heard about a zombie. Nothing about this song has been done before by another band.

The 2016 Grammy nominations were announced this morning.

Ghost was nominated for Best Metal Performance for Cerice, their first single from Meliora.

I could see an argument being made for Lamb of God, but I hope Ghost wins this. Meliora will undoubtedly win many awards from groups who focus exclusively on metal. It's a contender for metal album of the year, decade, and century (so far).

 

This was a good song in general before Ghost did their version of it. I greatly prefer their version.

Black metal bands like Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, and countless others use "evil" imagery and costumes as part of their stage shows. Ghost is maybe the first band I've heard to combine their classic heavy metal guitar sound with this look. I'm not sure exactly what sub-genre they fit into. I read somewhere that they're like ultra-melodic melodic black metal. The seamless integration of the guitar, organ, and choir along with their classic heavy metal sound feels like something new to me.

 

Have you seen them in concert before? Jack Black kicks ass as a live performer. This year they did something different and played an all jazz music set at the Festival Supreme. I'm hoping they'll come out with a new album and do another full world tour.

This is the other Grammy nominated song I could see winning. Randy Blythe (Lamb of God singer) was arrested in the Czech Republic while on tour in 2012. Apparently at a show in 2010, some random guy jumped on stage and Randy pushed him off. The guy hit his head on the floor and died afterwards. They arrested Randy and charged him with manslaughter in 2012 when he didn't even know he was wanted for a crime there.

He faced 10 years in jail if convicted. They released him on bail after 5 weeks, but Randy would have to go back to a Czech prison if convicted. He was acquitted, thankfully. It was an accident. Violent shit happens at metal shows. If you jump on stage when the band is playing, you should expect to get thrown off stage. It sucked that they blamed Randy for it in the first place.
