Vitali was dominating Byrd until the injury. I don't know what was going through his mind at the time, but Vitali decided to quit. That was the only moment in his career that he quit instead of fighting on. He beat everyone else he faced except for Lewis, who he would have beaten if the doctor hadn't stopped it. He was a much better fighter than Chris Byrd and would have beaten him 9 out of 10 times.

It is unfair to compare opponents of 40 year old Vitali with how they did against 20 something Tyson. Prime Vitali would destroy prime Tyson Fury 10 out of 10 times.

Vitaly wasn't dominating Byrd at all. He was winning comfortably but it was a competitive fight, far from a blowout. And lol at Vitaly beating Lewis if the doctor didn't stopped it. It was pretty much anyones fight, and claiming that it was a sure Vitaly win only shows that you're extremely biaised and that theyre is no point in debating with you on this.

vitali was definitely better than wlad. plus he was fun to watch. he threw a lot of punches. hardly ever held. and he usually stopped his opponent.

I'm extremely biased in thinking Vitali was the best professional boxer I've seen in my adult life. Mike Tyson was my all time favorite as a kid.

Vitali was the obviously the best heavyweight of the last 10 years. The fight with Byrd was the lowest point in his career. He came back to beat Lennox (in my opinion) and beat anyone else he took on for the next 10 years,

As cdogg said, Vitali has far more courage than Wlad and because of that courage he'd knock fury the fuck out and get home in time for dinner.

Vitali has a vastly superior chin and vastly superior defense. Look at the fights he had against guys who knew how to punch and who threw punches and it's amazing how many times he avoids the incoming and gets off with something of his own. That's why he would TKO Fury, he'd keep coming forward and keep landing. Simple really.

Lewis technically got the win with the doctor stoppage. He was losing the fight. He decided to retire instead of facing Vitali in a rematch.

The only point really to be taken from Lewis vs Vitali is that Vitali could take serious leather and dish it out too.

Watching Vitalis old fights, its amazing how he avoided punches that so many supposedly better or more successful fighters couldn't.

When Vitali first hit the scene, many put him on the same level as Lou Savarese. Big White guy. Sure.

Johnson could hit Saverese and Maskaev for fun but couldn't find an even bigger target with the same shots.

Vitali was a big, hard, clever bastard. Totally different fighter and man to his brother.

Vitali had a unique style. That's what stood out to me the most about him along with his great chin and toughness.

Awkward mother fucker. The way he moved his upper body and the way he punched was different. Anything BUT textbook or conventional.

I think prime for prime Lewis beats him for sure, though.

I don't disagree with any of that, apart from the fact that Lewis got sparked twice in his "Prime" and Vitali did not.

But styles do make fights and if Lewis had the size and style to beat Vitali then Vitali had the size and style to never have problems with McCall, Rahman or Mercer.

Vitali was an excellent fighter, one of my favourites. We've also seen him up against a fellow big man who was far superior to Furry and more than hold his own. He wins this big IMO.

Vitali was a top notch fighter whose legacy suffers because the division was so fucking terrible but he dominated it... He battered his opponents, humiliated them, left no doubt that they were not in his class and he didn't have to engage in negative, terrified shenanigans to do it

wald pussy was a disgrace, his brother would have mounted him and put it in dry
