The Gatti-Ward trilogy gets all the attention. While it was an entertaining, if one-sided, trilogy with a great first fight, I thought some of other fights involving the two fighters (Wilson Rodriguez, Ivan Robinson 1-2, Gabriel Ruelas, Reggie Green, Emanuel Augustus, Shea Neary, Antonio Diaz) were better, and more closely contested, fights than the other 2 in the trilogy. Anyway, would you pick Robinson-Gatti 1 or Ward-Gatti 1 as the better fight?
Gatti-Robinson and I don't think its even close. Gatti-Robinson 1 was a great fight. Gatti-Ward 1 is one of, if not THE most overrated fight ever.
Everything is "overrated" to you. Still, I agree. Gatti Ward 1 was all about round 9 really. Gatti-Robinson 1 was a better fight overall. Same with Hagler-Hearns actually. The "fight" is overrated...round 1 is where the great action and ebb and flow were....after that it was a Hagler domination. Trinidad Vargas is a better overall fight than Hagler-Hearns, for example.
Robinson/Gatti definitely a better fight 9th round of Ward/Gatti was the most compelling live round IMO
Hagler-Hearns is indeed an overrated fight. GRANTED though, you don't see elite fighters lay it on the line like that anymore.
I defy anyone to find a round like that first round in a fight between two truly elite, all time fighters ...
