So what does the Fightbeat MMA mob have to say about ONE FC's new weight cutting rule? Hard to believe they have a card coming up on January 23 that will be implementing the new rules.

Do you think its a great idea that is overdue? Do you think it will just be new rules that fighters will find ways to cheat around? Is it better or worse than same-day-weigh-ins?

And my last question is really the most telling, will the UFC adopt the same program or will they need a weight cutting death to spur the change like ONE FC needed?

It's ridiculous. Who will enforce it? One FC cant enforce it. You know damn well that if One FC is in charge of enforcing this and they have a major fight they will not scrap the card and make an exception. They will have to find an outside source, but who? Also, There is no way these fighters are going to be on weight at 3 weeks out and expected to maintain that weight until the fight. Infuckingpossible. What will happen is that most of their card is going to gain weight or be unhealthy and be forced to drop out of the fight.

I think same-day weigh ins make a lot more sense. Cutting weight is dehydration, pretty much by definition.

When you do same day weigh ins, you lose a lot of the advantage of cutting weight. Fighters will adjust accordingly.

The problem with focusing on walking around weight is that it's not apposite to the problem they are trying to fix.

Agree. To me, it seems like same day weigh ins would solve the dehydration issue.

That being said, it sounds like more of the ONE FC fighters are planning to move up a weight class. Ben Askren is going to be fighting at 185. Crazy.
