I crack up when Zaghe fans get offended by that statement. As if it's absurd to suggest Ward is on Joe's level. THAT'S why Joe is insanely overrated on here.
No. It's when people say Calzaghe-Ward is a 50-50 fight (which is fair), and that Kovalev-Ward is a 50-50 fight (which is fair), but Kovalev-Calzaghe is a massacre (which isn't fair). That is the issue.
I agree with you that it's a toss-up. I have issue with it being made out that one beats the other going away.
Nope. Never said that. I agree, it'd be a close fight either way. Neither is dominating the other. Both have attributes that would trouble the other.
Massacre is a harsh word for Kov-Calz. But given that Joe's best work wasn't at 175, and given in his only two fights at 175 he was dropped by old Hopkins and Jones, I'd make Kovalev a pretty clear favorite.
No, because I think stylewise Ward is more capable of beating Kov. At the end of the day, Joe was an offensive fighter. That's not gonna beat Kovalev.
Kovalev wins. I've been rather impressed with Kovalev. He's a solid boxer with very heavy hands. He picks his shots well, has a heavy jab, he's solid technically. For good reason, there's been some criticism among this era with a lot of fighters lacking in the fundamental department, but I see Kovalev as a heavy hitter with solid technical skills. Something we could use more of in boxing. Max Kellerman actually picked Calzaghe over Spinks :: I mentioned that over at Eastside to laugh at Kellerman, and naturally there were people saying "Kellerman is right, he's not anti-British like so many of you". Because it must take a xenophobic person to pick Calzaghe to lose to Michael Fucking Spinks. God, boxingscene and ESB are full of idiots.
Calzaghe was a supermiddle, not a light-heavy. Joe would be a pretty long-odds underdog against a quality, hard-hitting light heavy like Kovalev. I'd imagine Joe winning a few rounds until he gets hit with something big which changes the fight. And Joe has, at worst, a very decent chin. Having said that, Kovalev gets a lot of credit for a guy with his resume. What's his best wins? An ancient Hopkins, the bloke Froch beat and Cleverly? As for Ward-Joe, it's an ugly as hell fight which either could win. Joe beat Kessler as well as Ward did and he would have lit Froch up like a Christmas tree. Whoever was at home probably gets the decision in an awful, eyesore of a fight. MTF
Come on...let's be realistic here....bitch ass Calzaghe wouldn't get 100 feet from Kovalev....self imposed protective order, Kovalev would've been harmful to Calzaghe well-being.
says the parki cocksucker who's so dsesperate to be accepted by brits that he nuthug any bum that happens to come from there. Yeah, Calzaghe having to turn around a fight he was losing by midway point was as impressive as Ward winning every second of the fight
It's somewhat amusing how dumb and ridiculous the posts are over there. It's not really the ignorance that annoys me about that forum and boxing scene, it's how many posters come across as fans of the fighters and not the sport itself. I can't stand those sort of posters.
:: Now I see where the idiocy comes from. If you can be more than 100% wrong, this joker is there. MTF ::
