I've heard it said that Floyd avoids tall fighters like the plague, so he may be too scared to fight Breland. However since this is a mythical matchup let's assume he'd have the cojones to get in the ring with the former Olympic champion.

    What would happen?

With Breland, you never know... he could break his rib or dislocate his shoulder throwing a hook... But his height, his jab and his power would equal the most difficult fight Mayweather has ever had in his career... Is Mayweather strong enough to take advantage of Breland's lack of sturdiness? Does he have the gumption to try if shit isn't going his way?

I'm a Mayweather fan but I don't think he has the gumption to try if shit isn't going his way. When adversity strikes he pussies out. Just look at the Mosley fight...Shane hurt him worse than he had been hurt up to that point, almost knocked him down and Floyd turned coward and ran like the bitch that he is. Shameful. When Zab Judah was winning the early rounds by outspeeding him and even dropping him unofficially....Mayweather stunk the joint out by grabbing for dear life for the rest of the fight. And don't even let me bring up the Castillo fight where Floyd was crying about his poor shoulder and wanted to quit there and then.

So, in conclusion, for Mayweather to win this fight, the shit needs to be going his way at all times.

Word. The fact that he's never been in a Leonard Hearns type struggle proves he would be a coward once adversity struck

The fact he's never fought anyone over 5'9...

    wait. what?

sly, your basic argument here is that since pbf beat castillo, mosley and judah, that questions about how he would have dealt with a tall fighter are unfounded? got it.

    oh, my bad

He had a tepid sparring session against an over-the-hill 5'11 guy and Diego "Dude, where's my defense?" Corrales was maybe 5'10 (and a lightweight)

No Double and Cdogg, my only point is that Floyd has shown on more than one occasion that he has the heart to win and the ability and mindset to adjust if he faces a difficult situation. That's the only important issue here. Height per se is irrelevant.

It's a winnable fight for Floyd but not an easy one. Breland may have been as brittle as glass but he had a huge heart and would not be discouraged after eating some counters.

If Breland fought smart he could win this but we know what happens: Breland gets stung and then the dog in him comes out and that plays into Floyd's hands. Floyd potshots and counters enough to win a close one.

Because many guys in history have faced a fighter with different physical attributes that they are used to for a first time. If Floyd had made a habit of struggling with taller fighters then it would be relevant. But he hasn't. So it's speculation only that brelands height would be a big problem for him. So the real question is whether or not Floyd can adjust when things aren't going his way, and he's answered that.

height is relevant in pbf's case because despite being short for his weight class, he has managed to face almost nobody taller than him. the exception is odh who gave him fits and showed what a tall fighter with a jab can do against pbf. as much as you'd like to say height does not matter, it does.

Dela Hoya gave him fits not because of his height but because he was de la Hoya. Besides fits or not I had pof winning 8 rounds of that fight like the general consensus. So if that qualifies as "fits" in PBfs case, he's been pretty dominant.

I fail to see how the first Castillo fight was a proof of pbf heart and determination. The dude was getting chased out of the ring in the mid to late rounds

The natural question for a relatively short boxer and counter puncher is how he deals with a tall rangy guy that makes it harder for him to establish safe range and distance.

Since 147 Floyd is all about maintaining a safe zone and picking at his opponent and countering his offense, and controlling the pace, it is weird how he managed to fight a bunch of 5'7, 5'8 guys after struggling with a past prime (but still good) DLH. And that he let such a fuss kick up over him supposedly avoiding two pretty average fighters in Margarito and Williams who just happened to be big, rangy, strong guys that were willing to walk through punches and threw lots of punches.

Would Corrales' height be relevant in a mythical matchup against Duran?

No but his excellent ability to generate power from in close would be more useful against a Duran "type" than a Mayweather.
