    Over the years.

    Star Wars (1977)
    * 7 Oscars / 11 Nominations

    The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
    * 2 Oscars / 3 Nominations

    Return Of The Jedi (1983)
    * 1 Oscar / 5 Nominations

    The Phantom Menace (1999)
    * 3 Nominations

    Attack Of The Clones (2003)
    * 1 Nomination

    Revenge Of The Sith (2009)
    * 1 Nomination

    The Force Awakens (2015)
    * 5 NominationsI mean, Star Wars is my personal favorite of all of them and clearly the best, but, the gradual decline of quality as shown in this list says it all really, eh?

    Academy Awards nominations are a lot of BS and bias in favor of whatever 'it' liberal trend is on the media. Science Fiction films never gets a fair share regardless.

    Yeah, they are now.
    It was never always the case though.

    Look at all the Best Picture winners from say, the mid-1950s to the mid 1980s: they're pretty much all great movies.

    IMO, The Academy Awards shifted it's bias as you correctly pointed out, in the 2000s. By this time, the 'Golden Age' of Hollywood was well and truly over and audiences wree and have been since, ingrained into 'The Big Block Buster'.

    Double-word.

    Look at the last six winners:
    The King's Speech
    The Artist
    Argo
    12 Years A Slave
    Birdman
    Spotlight

    I disagree. The political bias started in the late 60s and many Best Picture winners have fallen to almost obscurity while the 'losers' are viewed as classics. Check these classic and to which titles they lost:

    "Bonnie & Clyde" and "The Graduate" lost to 'In The Heat of The Night'.
    The boring musical 'Oliver!' won Best Picture while 'Planet of The Apes' and '2001: A Space Odyssey' were not nominated.
    "Star Wars" lost to 'Annie Hall' (in year where "Close Encounters Of The third Kind" was ignored.
    'Apocalypse Now' lost to 'Kramer vs Kramer'
    'Raging Bull' & 'The Elephant Man' lost to 'Ordinary People'
    "Raiders of the lost Ark" lost to 'Chariots of Fire'
    In 1985 'Back to The Future' was not even nominated in a year 'Amadeus' won Best Picture.
    "E.T. The extraterrestrial" lost to 'Ghandi'.

    Come on panchy, they were crap. Entertaining if you divorce them from the Star Wars canon but as they relate to the original films they were indeed abortions

    In bold above - these are post mid-70s blockbusters which were now the norm for massive gross - but are they as good as the movies they lost out to?
    Ordinary People, Chariots Of Fire, Amadeus and Ghandi are solid but not spectacular movies.
    Kramer Vs Kramer I'm not so sold on, but that even beat All That Jazz....so, I dunno what happened there.
    Raging Bull is a great acting performance....but is it a great movie?

    IMO, the best eras for Hollywood and The Academy Awards were the 1950s-late 1970s

    They're not even entertaining.
    They veer between being boring, overdone, irritating and utterly ridiculous.

    There isn't a single aspect of quality or enjoyment from any of these three movies.

    Not one.

    Actually, there is:

    They made a combined $2.5 billion mainly from repeated viewings. They are not great, but not bad films. I found more positive things than bad things in them. IMO Lucas biggest mistake was to start the prequels with Anakin as a boy and then as a teenager. That was unnecessary. 'Revenge of the Sith' is a freaking good movie. Better than 'Return of the Jedi'. But I'll give you that Vader's 'NOOOOO!' was cringe-worthy. How come James Earl Jones delivered such an awful line.

    I dunno.
    I watched 'Jedi' today and although it's pretty cheesy now, I still prefer it to 'Sith'.
    That cunt who plays Anakin Skywalker is as annoying now as he ever was, Natalie Portman is just one-dimensional and boring, Emperor Palpatine is pure 'He's-Behind-Youuuuu' pantomime schtick...

    Why do you keep bringing up these financial stats like they're at all indicative of quality? One of the Fast and Furious films brought in around one and half billion. The fucken Spice Girls sold something like 30 million albums. Mcdonalds has sold more food than any other restaurant in the world. To you that must mean they have world class cuisine.

    Yup, "Jedi" is cheesy but the overall film is still better than Sith. Even though Han wasn't the same Han as the one in the previous two film, the comination of him Luke and Leai was still miles better than Obi Wan, Padme and FUCKING Anakin. Plus The Luke/Vader/Emperor bit at the end was cool...the Jabba Palace/Sarlac sequence was cool too. the only real weakspot in that film were those little furry fucks.

    Seriously, try and re-watch The Phantom Menace now.
    I get as far as 15 mins in and it drives me fucking mental.

    The WTF-are-they-talking-about opening credit-scroll, the droids who talk like Twiki from Buck Rogers In The 25th Century, the 'amaizng' Jar-Jar Binks, the slightly-altered ethnic voices for anything not looking human, the OTT CGI, the fucking annoying little kid with his modern-day lingo, list goes on....

    This is before Hayden Christiansen was even considered - a punk, who always has a pouty look on his face like it says:
    'Fucking Punch Me. Hard. Now.'

    How dare Ye insult Scoatland's most famous restaurant - McDonalds!

    :up:

    Those Star War stats tell a true story in terms o' nominations/ winners - bias is no' a factor here.

    Watched 'The Force Awakens' again the other day and it more than survived the second viewing. Ah see it as Protestants triumphing over the evil empire o' Rome. Palpetine shared many o' the same qualities o' Pope John Paul II.

    No annoying cute EWOKS! :nono: Come on! Those obvious marketing tools singlehanded defeated the better trained Empire troops with superior weapon technology with just arrows, spears and rocks? Give me break! The whole 'Leia is my sister' produced a collective WTF in audiences upon first viewing. That was plain LAZY writing there and very forced to say the least. Droids being 'tortured'? LOL I did enjoyed the Luke raid on the barge in Tatooine and the Endor forest speeders chase, but we were treated AGAIN with another Death Star assault and another 'cantina' (Jabba the Hut's Palace). Luke & Vader second duel was not as exciting as the first one and Vader seemed weaker this time.

    'Revenge of the Sith' kept its somber dark tone from start to finish. No cute characters. Jar Jar only has a brief non-speaking cameo at the end, the light saber duels were superior to any other SW film and we get a glimpse of Grand Moff Tarkin at the end when the first Death Star began to be built. I rank 'Sith' a notch higher than 'Jedi' as it was more straightforward and less silly.
