Taylor's handspeed and activity vs Locche's defensive brilliance, and superb skill.

how do you score a fight where one guy throws 1100 punches with a 12% connect rate while the other throws half that many with a 40% rate but little power?

I think Locche is the greatest defensive fighter of all time... Whitaker and Pep and Floyd were better fighters because they had better offensive games but for pure defensive skill, I think he's the best

This is a guy that shut out Antonio Cervantes... nobody that does that is a few levels below Mel Taylor

Id say cervantes wasnt in his prime when he lost to Locche. Not to say that in pretty much the only round that is available on tape, it is far from a domination

I'll say this much: Locche-Fuji is probably the SINGLE most amazing defensive clinic I've ever seen.

    Yeah it's insane

I know Fuji wasn't some legend or anything but he was a strong and aggressive guy with a big punch and he was a champion, Locche made him look like he was making his pro debut

And to add to that peformance Locche basically fought one-handed the entire time.

I may have to watch some ideas of this Locche character after reading these comments. Better defensively than per bell Whitaker ? Ok, you've got my attention.

Hes not that impressive. Sure he makes his opponent misses, but it his not that hard when you only try to make them miss and you are barely establishing any offense. The guy was lucky to be fighting in argentina, which was very corrupted at the time

Not countering? He generally peppered his opponents with left hands

And what is your evidence for boxing in Argentina being noticeably more corrupt than anywhere else at the time?

Locche drew with Carlos Ortiz, but by all accounts, Ortiz was robbed and deserved a clear win.

There's a clip of that on YouTube but it's too brief to draw any conclusions about the fight

It is pretty well known. Surprised that you don't seem to know about it. All these draws Argentinians were getting were not really draws.

Family members obviously know I like boxing so most Christmases I get a dvd like '100 greatest knockouts!!' that i never end up watching. Shit like the above is what I love....fave ever fight to rewatch is probably toney-McCallum which is basically 36 minutes of two guys being made to miss or only half connect despite throwing, skilfully, almost continuously. Proper jackson
