Good match... I'd put my money on The Hitman, I think Curry's jab was an important weapon for him that he used to get in to range for his power shots... I don't think any welter can jab with Tommy Hearns and I don't think Curry can brawl his way to victory the way Leonard was able to.... I could see him hurting Tommy but I can't see him being able to finish him off and he's got to worry about Tommy's right hand
I'm pretty damn pissed off right now, so when you say Curry, I'd like to imagine Hearns' right cross landing on Steph.
Steph has a lot to answer for a very unMVP like performance. But back to this fight. I think Hearns stops Curry mid to late rounds after a tense boxing match.
But to seriously answer this question, Hearns blasts Curry out everytime. There's absolutely NO evidence of Tommy Hearns having a weak chin at 147. It took Leonard 14 rounds of sustained punishment to take him out, and it's not like Curry's firepower was on a different planet than Ray's. Best case scenario, Curry rocks Hearns. But it wouldn't take more than a few clean Hearns crosses to put Curry on (pun inteded).... queer street. Hearns KO 5.
I'm pretty sure they were supposed to fight at 154 until Honeyghan blew everything up. So I'd pick Hearns by KO at 147 and 154.
Hearns has EVERY Advantage Here... Height, Reach, Speed, Athleticism, Left Jab, Right Hand, Left Hook, Power...Curry Obviously Has the Proverbial "Puncher's Chance" Here, but Only a SLIM One...He WOULDN'T Outbox Hearns and he Wouldn't OutFIGHT Him Either... REED:hammert:
agREED... It's Doubtful Curry Would Be WILLING or ABLE to Dig as Deeeeeeeeeeeeeep as Leonard Had to, to Beat Hearns.... REED:hammert:
agREED... his skills will keep him from being totally embarrassed but ultimately he's either getting stopped or losing a very easy decision
Curry's counter punching is a legit danger but he most likely gets hurt after 4 or 5 rounds and doesn't last much longer
Curry was accustomed to countering with a handspeed edge. With Hearns having better handspeed and the longer arms/better jab, I dunno how effectively Curry can counter.
He couldn't do it consistently but he might be able to land something effective. But Hearns should pick him apart.
curry most definitely didn't have Leonard 's fortitude, but he did hit harder, IMO. So the question is whether or not he hit hard enough to KO Hearns and if he'd be able to get to him. If he gets drawn into that Leonard Hearns 1 type fight with Hearns dominating him with the jab and busting his face up with right hands, Curry would capitulate.
I doubt Curry has the chin and durability to do what Leonard did to Hearns. Nor did he dig the body the way Leonard did. I think Hearns' power would be way too much for Curry to deal with for 12-15 rounds.
Curry was a pretty good body puncher and he could definitely hurt Hearns to the body but he really just has a punchers chance.
