Personally, with the way Calzaghe was dropped relatively hard in his only two fights at 175 (bar a few fights at the beginning of his career against bums), I can't see him surviving the first few rounds against a bomber like stevenson.

If he somehow does, he have a chance to outwork him a win a close one, but that's a rather narrow possibility imo.

Calz fought at 175 towards the end of his career.

I actually could see him surviving an early onslaught, though. Joe was tough. Not an easy guy to beat, let alone KO.

He's just a better fighter than Stevenson, though Stevenson does have the puncher's chance.

Im not sure calz is actually a better fighter than Stevenson, or at the very least he didn't showed it against better opposition. When you think about it, his best win was either hopkins or kessler. And id say Dawson was at about the same level than these guy, and Stevenson looked much more impressive destroying him. And afaik, the only common opponent they fought is Bika, and Stevenson best him more easily.

Dawson had seen better days by the time he was KO'd by Stevenson.

I doubt Stevenson beats the Hopkins that fought Calzaghe.

I absolutely hate Sloppy Joe, but LMAO at suggesting Stevenson was better than Calz.

The Pimp gets slapped up in this fight, ironically enough.

Calz was a much better fighter than Chickenson.

lol based on what? Struggling past an old Bhop? Beating Kessler in a close fight? Beating a thousands of no-hoppers more or less impressively? Struggling and getting put on his ass by Kabary Salem? YOu think that calzaghe would beat Bellew as easily as stevenson did? Incredible how the guy is overrated, people acting like he's a lock over a very solid guy in Stevenson. BOth were pretty much at the same level, solid elite guys a few notch belows the top of the cream

Stevenson is dangerous early but probably gets stopped late. If he can't take Slappy out early with the left or hurt him badly every round he doesn't have much else and he slows down quickly.

Calzaghe has a rough time early on but wins easily by the end.

I think you guys dont consider cazaghe tendancy of slapping with his chin up in the air. There is a reason why he was floored by nearly everyone who could punch a bit. Stevenson have a much better punch and timing than most of hte bums Joe fought, and he has a very good chance of catching him hard.

Agreed, while his level of opposition is a bit underwhelming, Stevenson looks like a real killer in his current run. And some of the guy he's beaten are solid (Bellew, Fonfara and Dawson), if not more. His speed and timing are impeccable. No way Calzaghe beats him easily. In fact, I'd favor the pimp to stretch him considering old shot RJJ was able to floor him badly.

RJJ floored him with a forearm smash, FFS.

Calzaghe wasn't really a light-heavy. He had two fights there, ever. His win against Hopkins looks more impressive in light of Hopkins wins after that fight but that's about all there is - the RJJ fight means nothing in the grand scheme of things. This makes it hard to judge how good or otherwise he was there.

Calzaghe was hittable early. He had a decent chin but excellent recovery capacities - he was dropped a fair few times but rarely in danger of being stopped and usually fully recovered very quickly. Stephenson could get him out of there - he isn't very good but he hits hard. My money would be on a slappy decision where he is maybe dropped early but adjusts midfight-fight and slaps his way to a 8-4 type of win.

    MTF

I like Stevenson but he doesn't look like a "killer" at all. He looks like a one trick pony that slows down dramatically as fights go on and looks vulnerable.

Stevenson is pretty much a poor man version of Pacquiao. Only one dimension, but it's a hell of a dimension. He definitively looks like a killer blasting out Dawson, Cloud and Bellew. And wha't the thing about him slowing down in fights ? The only time I rebember this happening to some extent was against FOnfara, and even then he finished stronger than him

Stevenson would drop Calzaghe but he won’t keep him down. Calzaghe will win a decision

Not too surprised, since you english boys tend to overrate the fuck out of slappy Joe.

I,ve been rewatching a lot of his fights lately, and the guy was more open than a 7-eleven. Shitty Kabary Salem was tagging him repeatedly with bombs, and even floored him bad. it would spell disaster against a fast hard punching guy like stevenson

You would have been one of those who picked Lacy over Calzaghe

I don’t think Calzaghe is a gimme over Stevenson considering the Pimp’s size and power advantages but I only give Stevenson a puncher’s chance.

What size advantage lol. Stevenson is a small ass LHW, and was fighting at smw until he got a shot at Dawson at 175.
