The Jungle Book (2016) Let me first state that I have never been a fan of this particular story and much less of the Disney animated classic. That film was too slow, boring and the songs weren't catchy enough. The 1940 version that made Sabu an international star was so-so IMO. However I did like the 90's Jason Scott Lee version, even though it was more Tarzan than Jungle Book. So when this film opened to glowing reviews and smashing box office, I was still not motivated enough to check it out as I thought was another unneeded remake. Boy was I wrong! This is a helluva of a movie, the best film I have watched so far this year (yes, better than 'Captain America: Civil War'). The boy that played Mowgli is a true thespian, an absolute marvel how he so naturally 'interacted' with the animals which in fact were just golf size balls in a rod in front of a giant green screen. Being the only actor in the set reacting to imaginary animals and landscapes (the whole film was shoot indoor at Disney Studio) requires a LOT of talent. This boy is a natural, a pint size Lawrence Olivier whose performance makes you believe in those cgi talking animals. The film moves at a fast pace and has truly terrifying moments when the tiger attacks. My only complains are the inclusion of two songs in what is an otherwise songless film...and Christopher Walken singing can be either a riot or a disaster. I was not amused, to be honest. This is a fantastic film, highly entertaining that will delight your inner child. 9/10
Although I take your 9/10 rating with a grain of salt, I do want to see this. I haven't seen any of the other versions of this story and don't even know what it's really about, but the trailer looks good.
