Hell yeah! I'll watch it! It is only a test footage of the ship (which looks suspiciously like the Ralph McQuarry's preproduction concept art for the ill-fated 'Star Trek: Phase 2' series from 1976). They cannot go with that storyline as the current films already covered the early 'Academy' plot of young Kirk & crew, so I hope they bring interesting characters (NO LGBT crap PLEASE!!!).

Maybe foreseeing the disappointing numbers for Star Trek Beyond and probably the expected languishing movie franchise too, is that the studio decided to relaunch the brand again as a tv series to keep it alive in case that the films ends their run at the box office. This makes us wonder about 'Star Trek Discovery'. Will it be a great series like the original classic series and ST: The Next Generation or just good like 'Deep Space Nine'? or will it be 'meh' like 'St: Voyager' or plain awful like 'Enterprise'?

Whatever it turns out, for now, lets remember the Top Ten Best Star Trek episodes:

    1. 'The Best of Both Worlds Parts 1 & 2" from 'The Next Generation'. This is hands down the very best Star Trek of not only TNG, but of the whole entire tv franchise. It showed how a great threat were the Borg which up until then had very little exposure and here not only they put the Enterprise and crew in danger, but also captured Captain Jean Luc Picard and assimilated him, turning him into 'Locutus of Borg' which forces Commander Riker to decide between destroying Picard and the whole Borg ship to save mankind or try a suicide rescue mission in a very short span of time. The production values of this two part episode was top notch and movie-like at that time. The Borg has since become a cultural staple thanks to this episode.

    2. "City on The Edge of Forever" (Star Trek original series) Written by scifi great Harlan Ellison this is Trek at its best. On a remote planet Kirk, Spock and a few other crew members are searching for Dr. McCoy who turned psychotic after accidentally injecting himself with a medication. They find a time portal called The Guardian of Forever which McCoy jumps into thus altering history and as a consequence the Enterprise and the whole space program that preceded it never happened. Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Scotty & red shirts remain stranded in that place unless they go back in time to stop McCoy from altering the future. I am not saying much after this if you have not watched it, go ahead and treat yourself to a wonderful intelligent story with an emotional ending. This one, ranked as the best episode of the original show, demonstrates how much can be achieved in a little budget, minimal special effects and emphasis on characters and plot.
    3. "The Trouble with Tribbles" (Star Trek original series) another classic episode that introduced fan favorite tribbles, adorable furry ball-like alien pets that purrs upon touch, but that can eat all the food supplies of the space station Epsilon 5 as they multiply after eating (Gremlins movie stole that from here). Besides the Tribbles infestation Kirk and Spock must deal with Klingons and trying to find out who is a spy plotting an assassination attempt. Very entertaining.
    4. "Troubles and Tribble-ations" Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. DS9 use to be sooo serious that it was a pleasant surprise to be treated to a very well done episode where Captain Sisqo and Dax time travel to the classic Tribbles episode I described before. Combining the new actors with the old crew footage was simply awesome. It was fun and nerdgastic.
    5. 'Unification' Part 1 & 2. ST:TNG: Picard is searching for the missing Ambassador Spock and finds him in enemy territory, Romulan, not as a prisioner but as a guest of the underground peace movement. Great plot about diplomacy, espionage, war plans, and the father/son relationship of Spock and Sarek toward a 'unification' of the Vulcans & Romulans. Great stuff and Nimoy was a marvel to watch as usual.
    6. "Mirror, Mirror" (Star Trek original series) Kirk is switched to an alternate universe where the Federation is an evil empire, crew members kill their superiors to ascend in rank and evil Spock sports a goatee. Another fan favorite.

    7. "Redemption" (ST:TNG) Lt Worf became a favorite character and not only this episode throws him to quit his position in the Enterprise, but to restore his father's name by joining one of the two battling sides in the Klingon Civil War and lead the battle. Picard uncovers a Romulan plot that will crush the opposite side, and calls a Federation armada to blockade Romulan battleships to interfere in the Klingon war. During the battle it is revealed that Tasha Yar had a Romulan daughter and she is one of the Romulan generals. Great space battle scenes, excellent plot. One of my favorite episodes and better than a bunch of the films.
    8. "Rejoined" (ST:DS9) Dax is a regular DS9 crewmember who hosts a symbiotic lifeform called an 'elder' who was Sisqo's best friend thus that is why he calls her 'Old Man'. Dax used to be married to another elder whose male host died and now its host, Lenara, is a female, which complicates matters. Thought provoking plot about love, lesbianism, self prejudice and probably one of the very first LGBT episodes on prime time television in the 90s.
    9. "Amok Time" (Star Trek original) The very first Spock centered episode remains the best. Spock must return to Vulcan ASAP to perform Pomfar with his mate or he will die. Kirk, Spock & McCoy get him to Vulcan just to find out Spock's wife is a cheater and demands trial by combat (Game of Thrones stoled this). And she picks as her champion, to battle Spock to the death, not her lover, but KIRK!!! Iconic fight scene with iconic music which was paid homage in Jim Carrey's 'Cable Guy'.
    10. "All Good Things..." Parts 1 & 2 (ST: TNG) The cast of The Next Generation were about to embark on their cinematic journey, thus the series had to be finished, even though it was at its ratings peak. So the producers decided to end the series with a bang in a high budget two-parter plot that regardless if at times was confusing it tied nicely with the very first episode of the series 'Encounter at Far Point' which made it more thought provoking that its constant timelines jumps: was the whole adventures of Picard a vision implant from the powerful entity Q or was everything real? I am still debating about that. Great finale for a great series.

Correct and that's why this 3rd movie will be total shit.
The trailer looks exactly like one of those Fast & Furious movies.

The movie was'nt shit at all. In fact it is darn good; one of the best Trek films ever IMO. I saw it and loved it and can't wait to buy the Blu-ray. The trailer didn't sold the film properly and the exorbitant budget didn't help either.

    So, wait a minute.
Star Trek Beyond has done almost as bad as a) Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice and b) Ghostbusters in it´s initial 1-2 week drop-off in the box-office......yet you´re still going to objectively say Star Trek Beyond is great and everyone has the wrong idea? :scratcher:

Does box office performance equals movie quality? The movie so far is a box office failure, but that doesn't mean is a lousy film. BTW 'BvS:DOJ' was a box office megahit, but disappointing as the studio was expecting over $1 billion in grosses. That and the reviews were pretty bad. Star Trek Beyond has pretty good reviews with 83% certified fresh at RT.

Not always, but its generally a good benchmark these days: very rarely does a poor-performce at the box-office get great reviews.
And it just sounds a bit too convenient in this case.

Point in case: Steven Spielberg's 'The BFG' had decent reviews and was a colossal flop; 'Love & Friendship' got the best reviews of the year (99% certified fresh RT) and it still bombed miserably; 'The Lobster' had glowing reviews, but didn't make more than $8.5 million; Woody Allen's 'Cafe Society' is a critic's darling, but it has grossed only $3.9 million. Sometimes good movies don't find its audience for different reasons (like 'Blade Runner' or 'Streets of Fire') and sometimes is just that inflated budgets cannot be surpassed for that particular film's appeal.

Except The BFG, these are really poor comparisons with a blockbuster movie like Star Trek Beyond.

Love & Friendship I´ve never even fucking heard of, The Lobster was a European art-house movie and the last one´s a cunting Woody Allen (your peadophile mate).
    Awful, hideous comparisons.

Those films appeal to certain demographics, but still bombed regardless. 'The Shawshank Redemption', "Citizen Kane', "The Wizard of Oz' "Its a Wonderful life'...all masterpieces, were box office flops. "Fight Club" bombed too.

But they´re also really cheaply made movies.

Star Trek Beyond a) had a massive budget probbaly because of b) massive success of the first two.

This isn´t like Paramount taking risks or gambles - they know they have a surefire hit and must be uber-confident of a third blockbuster.

I bet this is all down to fucking Simon Pegg´s fanboy script.
Come on, Panchy, tell me it is.

The script was lightyears better than 'Into Darkness'. In fact many fanboys got so pissed by that film that they boycotted this one.

CBS announced that 'Star Trek Discovery' will not only have a female lead, but that this main character will break Trek tradition as she will NOT be the captain of the ship, but a minor ranking crew member. I am totally okay with this as I always wondered what life would be like for those other crew members walking on the hallways. It was also revealed that the series timeline will be BEFORE the events of the 1960's series. Which makes it even more interesting...as long as they don't bring Captain Archer.

This fan-made 'episode' is as good as any of the original series. They replicated exactly the sets, costumes, lightning, acting styles and themes adding a 'new' sociopolitical one in this episode, very at tune with both the 60s times and our current political scenario. :bears:

Best thing going for a series like this is the fact they can't overuse CGI and prioritize pretty visuals over quality story telling like they would if it were just a film.

I'll probably check this out. I wouldn't exactly call myself a Star Trek fan as I never watched the original series and the only older film I ever watched was the Wrath Of Khan. However, I was a pretty big fan of TNG and pretty much followed that whole series.

:wo: go watch a few of them like 'City on The Edge of Forever', 'Space Seed', 'The Trouble with Tribbles', 'Where No Man Has Gone Before' or 'Amok Time'. Scifi tv at its very best!

The original TV series was far superior to the shitty, 90s version where you can imagine viewers dressing up as their favorite character just to tune in.

    Plus the women were fitter.

I love both series, but they were very different. The original explored controversial subjects of its era dressed as scifi within an action-adventure setting and obligatory scandily clad babes on every episode for Kirk's amusement. TNG was more intellectual, with less in the action department and definitely lower on the Babe-o-meter. Once you accepted the fact that Captain Jean Luc Picard was not a fighter, nor a lover like James T. Kirk, but a brilliant tactician, it wasn't so difficult to enjoy that great show.

Yeah it did...because youd check yourself every time and think ´´this show is for those fucking virginal nerds who go to these new=craze Star Trekker Conventions´´

Hence the need for Galaxy Quest to show people exactly how shit and ridiculous 1990s sci-fi had gotten...

So you're actually sitting there trying to say people who watched TNG of Star Trek were more nerdier then people who watched the original series?

And for your info Galaxy Quest was based on the original Star Trek series fandom which was far more out of hand and crazier then what TNG ever achieved and you can go on youtube for proof of that. Hell even Saturday Night Live had a spoof about the original series where Shatner started getting pissed off at his own fans.

    Pretty much, yeah.
Star Trek was big in the late 60s but it didnt really take-off Trekkie-fan-wise until it was re-syndicated in the early 70s- hence the first convention.

Being as Star Trek: The Next Generation didnt appear until the early 1990s, and by then, science-fiction in media was full-blown, then yeah....they definately were nerdier and hence you got people dressing up in near-perfect Klingon costumes and actually speaking to each other...in Klingon.
I very much doubt people did that in 1969....no matter what heavy, Class A drugs they were all on at that time!

I have to agree with you, but mainly keeping in mind that in the 60's fans were 'in the closet' as anyone voicing being a Trek fan would face ridicule by his/her peers. Also in the 60's & early 70's few people have access or lacked the resources to go full cosplay and can only interact with fellow Trekkers via mail letters (pen-pals) and through cheap fanzines. Starlog magazine originally was conceived as a one shot Star Trek publication, but during its conception evolved as something more. When Star Wars came out and became a phenomenom, scifi turned cool, mainstream and 'In' thus most fans came out from their closets and expressed their fandom for Trek with no regrets.

photo of first Trek fans doing a protest at NBC studios when they announced were cancelling the show after its second season. Notice no cosplay and hand written T-shirts.

CBS announced that Star Trek Discovery has been delayed from its February 2017 scheduled debut to May. They cite that the series producers will need more time for the special effects...hmmm...I wonder if the fact that Star Trek Beyond flopped had anything to do with this decision...
