I know GGG isn't a particularly big Middleweight but let's assume for this matchup that he is as effective at 168 as he is at 160. How does he deal with the Calzaghe of the Lacy fight?

Calzaghe would win on workrate. But it'll be a close and competitive affair

Really hard to tell. I think that GGG has a good enought timing to offset Calzaghe rythm, but I could also see calzaghe movement and slapping giving fits to GGG

Calzaghe beats him, handy. Size difference is massive, for openers.

That is a big reason for it, yes.

I doubt Golov is much effective if he can't impose his physical strength on a guy. And coked up Joe is simply too big and strong for Golov to man handle like he does middleweights.

lol. THere's a whooping 8 pounds between them. THis is not exactly a ricardo Lopez vs Georges Foreman situation. BOxing fans really bought into this ridiculous notion that all these weight categories are a necessity, and not a cheap marketing ploy to have more world title fights

It's not that simple. Sloppy Joe was a BIG supermiddleweight. Golov isn't even a particularly big MIDDLEWEIGHT. Size would definitely play a factor.

And size alone, let's face it... Coking Joe was miles above anyone Golov has faced thus far. There's no telling how Golov would deal with Joe's quickness and activity level.
