That's the thing, say what you will about Khan but he's always taken on the best around. Maybe stupid on his part but you have to respect it.

Before the last abortion of a fight he had, Hatton had only lost to Floyd and Pac. THE best fighters at the time.

I was a kid. This fight was coming on free TV on a Saturday morning. I was a Nelson fan and expecting Nelson to end it early. My dad was making pancakes. He needed milk so he wanted me to ride my bike to the store to get milk. I told my old man I was watching the fight and I expected it would be over very soon. He said "Bullshit! Go get the damn milk and when you get back the fight will still be on." I left while they were announcing the fighters. Tried to haul ass to make it back in time. When I got back my dad said "You were right. Nelson knocked him out in the first round." :pissed:

Aside from that they were hoping Cowdell would win in the UK and set up a huge fight there between he and Barry McGuigan.

:nono: He'll always be the one who got away...................

My favorite Calzaghe fight was his long awaited HBO debut, but I can't remember who he fought.

Fuck Calzaghe. Seriously. A guy who got an absolute diamond pick, year-in, year-out and caught lightning in a bottle with his ´big´ victories.

    Seriously, fuck that guy. :nono:

That's true up to a point. He never cleaned out his own domestic scene, or tried, he got PPV status on the back of an Olympic Silver Medal, he then cherry picked like his name was Oscar De La Migrante so as to avoid getting knocked out while trying to land a mega payday.

He has my respect for his massive heart and resolve, but not too much more.

The Cowdell one is unfair. He fought Sal Sanchez very well. Dropped a split decision. Nelson didn't make it the distance.

One of my favourites is Augustus Burton coming over and doing a number on Jon Thaxton.

Who was he ducking on the domestic market?... I don't remember anybody limping around stalking him like Froch was to Calzaghe,.. but then again, proudly, I am not British. ---(serious question though :nono:).

And one for all. :crafty: hip hip.

I think if you were to cut the leash on these two choking maulers while they're in close proximity you would have indeed witnessed the extreme domesticity of this pair - abrupt silence, and hurt eyes.

Khan never even fought for the British Titles in any of the divisions- 135, 140, 147, that he fought in.

Potentially, Khan can lose just about any fight he takes, he could face Bum Mc Bum Bum, but if McBum has any punch at all, Khan could lose it.

Another guy who was careered into title shot after title shot.

He was fighting Joe Bugner, just like Khan was fighting Willie McLimond and a totally shot Michael Gomez, and they both put him on his ass.

Yeah. His claim to fame is doing about as good as Jean Pascal against a geriatric Hopkins. It's a real accomplishent that he managed to stay undefeated fighting such a murderers row

Minter was a quality fighter. Cut like tissue paper, but a quality fighter nonetheless. He doesn't really fit this thread - just a very good fighter losing to a better one. Fights like Colin Jones v Curry are in a similar ilk IMO.

Khan didn't bother himself with the kind of domestic fight he should have. He deserves criticism for that. But to say he didn't fight Brook is garbage. It's like ragging on Calzaghe for not fighting Froch - a mouthy upstart giving it large against someone who is all but done. Nothing to see there.

The notion that Khan is a 'ducker' while Brook isn't is patently false. Brook is a flat out joke. He hasn't earned anything like the right to say people are ducking him. Khan's sixth best win is better than Fraud Brook's second.

    THIS!

Or the notion that Khan was a "cherry picker" his entire career. He cherry picked Maidana when he was known to hit like a truck and was a major force at 140. Khan came to the US and fought very good competition picking up a few losses along the way.

yeah, but Khan is a muslim/arab (a parki, but what difference does it make for the common american/westerner), and even if the fact seems to point to the opposite, we all know that inherently, they are all cowards

The thing is about this one, I know someone arsehole who attended...and susprise-surprised, there were a lot of football/soccer holligans in the crowd.
The English have probably tamed since then, but that inherent ´bad loser´ gene runs throughout in a ´we-deserve-to-be-winners-we´re-British´ attitude.

    Khan certainly wasn't a cherry picker pre-Garcia.

Post-Garcia, there was never much of an interest in putting him in with a puncher and they purposely targeted guys without much pop... UNTIL he and his people realized that his career was going nowhere, and it was time to cash out against Canelo.

Khan had heart though. Can't take that away from him. He definitely wasn't some Victor Ortiz coward in there.

But the ending book on Amir Khan should read that he was mostly a product of hype. Horrible chin, shitty defense, VERY low ring IQ, and incomplete technical skills.

He never took a fucking risk after that and let's face it, he didn't rate Garcia at all.
