I'll go out on a HUGE limb and say this would have been a classic.

I can see a compelling argument for either guy, but gun to my head I think Chico's firepower wins out in the end.

It would be a brutal war after which neither would live long.

I take Mancini, Corrales was too hittable

    I don't have a problem with a Mancini pick.

It's really a toss-up. No wrong answer. I think the only wrong answer would be to predict an easy fight for either. Whoever wins would have to go through absolute Hell.

I don't think it's far-fetched to envision this being one of the most brutal wars ever.

Corrales via late stoppage, but I don't say that with a lot of confidence.

Mancini at his has all the tools to win this fight also.

Corrales would win this eventually. Good fight, but he's a better fighter

I think Chico woulda fared worse against Arguello though. Styles.

I think Arguello woulda destroyed Corrales in 6.

Probably. I don't think Corrales style meshed too well with Arguello. Mancin was able to win rounds by bouncng around and using speed. Won't work for Corrales.

Corrales will stop Mancini via 8 rounds TKO by turning his face into a bloody pulp. I can picture Mancini complaining to the ref that he is okay and can continue fighting.

corrales mainly on the basis of his superior hand-speed.

Wait, when did Coralles become this great skilled boxer with hand speed? Okay, I'll consent he did have skills, but him actually using them as opposed to his preference for putting on Rocky Balboa imitations is where I have a problem. Now I don't know shit about Mancini but if he can't beat a stupid albeit powerful slugger who's going to just follow him around all night while eating jabs then he either had a shitty chin or he was pretty overrated.

Mancini wasn't all that as a fighter. A bit of a hype job. He was given a few free pass since he had a cool story (dad career cut short because of WW2) and was a popular italian-american, Don't get me wrong, he could fight, but he wasn't some special talent. And you're selling Corrales way short. Guy beat very good/borderline great fighters in Garcia, Gainer, Cassamayor, Freitas and Castillo.

Yes he beat very good to great fighters (although I have a hard time considering Gainer either of those) but he did make it a lot harder than it had to be. For instance that Garcia win was exactly the fight I described earlier as where Corrales followed Garcia around the whole fight eating jabs and combos while falling behind on the cards. Garcia was putting on a clinic and Corrales only won when he finally caught Garcia with a perfect shot late in the fight and Corrales was the one who looked beaten to a pulp which he was.

Corrales had the heart and guts of a lion and his style was certainly entertaining, especially to the layman fight fan, but to us diehards we like to see skills on display and Corrales just wanted to be that blood and guts fighter a bit too much. He could have easily dialed back the brawling a hair, and while it may have made him a tad less exciting he would have been a shit ton more effective.

I don't know man. I think he was pretty skillfull at 130, the way he was ripping the body and hooking off the uppercut was just brilliant. Might have started to fall a bit too much in love with his power afterward though

Mancini, for me... I think he can take it more than Corrales and this would be about taking punishment as much as giving it out

I don't really see how Mancini proved he could take it more than Chico. Corrales was a very very hard fighter to hurt and to ko at 135 (at 130, weight drain was obvioulsy a factor), and mancini was far from unhurtable (he was pretty much hurt and staggered in each and everyone of his fights).

Corrales would never have sponged what Mancini did for 14 against Arguello

I think it's flawed to believe that there's no way Corrales could stop Mancini quicker than Arguello did. It's not to say that Corrales was better than Arguello. But I could envision him getting Mancini out of there sooner.

At the end of the day, Ray was EXTREMELY available to be hit. And while he had a solid chin, he didn't have the chin of Marciano or Lamotta.

Corrales was truly a freak puncher. And if he could CONSISTENTLY find Ray with that short hook, eventually Mancini WOULD be a goner.

I did read your post. Yes, Mancini had a better chin than Corrales. No one can dispute that. But I'm not sure his chin wins out over Chico's firepower. Especially considering that Mancini had a very SOLID chin, but not a great chin.

I'm saying he was more durable than Corrales
