The only reason I can see people not liking GOT's is because I think they don't really give it a chance. Sure they may actually sit and watch it, but in actuality they've already made up their minds about it. For many of them, they can't get past the dragons or witchcraft or some other aspect they find to far fetched or nerdy. I say if that is all they can focus their negativity or reasons for not watching on, then it perfectly illustrates my point. Because there is no other way you can dislike all the other positive attributes of this show, such as the nearly perfect casting of awesome characters, the top notch dialogue and great storylines, the different tribes and factions and their motivations as the show truly is just what its title implies, in just how far people will go to become King or Queen. Oh and by the way if you truly watch this show with an open mind you'll come to see that the incorporation of the dragons and their growth in both life and the story arch is awesome. But most people don't even judge the dragons on a fair basis because they usually don't even last that long due mostly to the prejudgement I mentioned.

Obviously there are people who don't like the show for acceptable reasons such as they hate any story from this type of time period (such as my missus) or they hate dialogue heavy dramas (my missus again). Anyone who actually enjoys shows from both genres but still doesn't like GOT's there's no other explanation than they simply didn't give it a chance, because it is flat out the best fucking show ever, on television.

Just start another thread titled "Has anybody seen the cult classic Futureworld?", and pick it up where you left off.

Its not even good enough to be considered a cult-classic either!
The acting, pacing, story, atmosphere - all suck terribly. No tension or drama of any note.

Panchy is just being a fucking prick for saying he likes it....although, I do agree with him that Beneath The Planet Of The Apes is okay...

Word, plus the first season barely had any fantasy elements and the dragons (babies) didn't hatch until the last frame of the last episode of season 1.

There´s another reason: it doesn´t provoke any thoughts or emotions within me whatsoever.
Same with Lord of The Rings....I feel nothing about it.
    Absolutey none. :dunno:

How good a show is and how much you like it are two completely different things.

I watch some admittedly borderline shitty shows, and I can't wait for them to come on. As soon as I see them hit the DVR I'm itching to catch up on them.

"The Americans" is an excellent show. Well made, well directed, fantastic acting........I let two seasons pile up on my DVR, we changed our cable box, they got deleted and I never watched it again.

However, a new episode of "Gold Rush" or "60 Days In" comes on, and I'm on top of that shit. I don't even know why. They're shitty, exploitive, halfway scripted faux reality shows. I feel guilty for watching them, but I can't get enough.

Meanwhile, I started watching "Top Of The Lake", got 4 episodes in, and it just seems like too much work.

True....but Game of Thrones is objectively brilliant...AND an objectively enjoyable show, if anyone gives it a chance. Only prudish old ladies would disapprove of it. Plot, character development, writing, acting...everything is superb.

I love Game Of Thrones. Hits all the perfect sweet spots for me. I can understand why others wouldn't quite get into it though.

I did, however, find it highly amusing and definately connected with, when Ian McShane gave his Magus-esque ´Im-totally-out-of-fucks-to-give´ attitude to the show when all the geeky fans got hurt when he gave away spoilers...spoilers which people seem absoluetly terrified of finding out about:
¨You say the slightest thing and the internet goes ape. I was accused of giving the plot away, but I just think ´get a fucking life´.
    It’s only tits and dragons¨

Another reason why I dont like it: its watched/loved by precious wankers.

Ian McShane is pretty great. The little bottle episode he did was awesome. If he gave shit away, that's even more reason to love him IMO.

    Westworld

    Did anyone watch it?
    I heard it's the top-rated, most-watched series of 2016? :emoji_thinking:

This shit doesn't interest me. Even though I occasionally like western movies I think the western atmosphere of this show turns me off the way dragons and swords turn you off. I can give a fuck about all the hype it had and even my friend telling me it's good. I'm certain I'll never watch it.

What's weird to me is how much I liked the 70s movie Westworld - but this series (or the first 5 episodes) seemed like 'hard work'.
Maybe trying to be too clever about it, I dunno.
With the movie it felt more simplistic, there were no off-tangent plotlines, you had the unstoppable menace of Yul Brynner's malfunctioning gunslinger in a pre-cursor ro The Terminator or maybe it was all a new sci-fi concept in 1973...

Something like Ozark grabbed me from 20mins into the first episode.

I love when a show does that because when it does I know I'm in for a good ride and I will usually stick with the series. There are a few instances where the show will still disappoint but usually it works out. Usually if a show doesn't grab me at some point in the first ep, I'm not watching any further.

What I don't get is how the first time you saw Tyrion interact with Jon Snow on Game Of Thrones you didn't get grabbed.

I couldn't tell you for the life of me who those characters are or what they look like.
All I felt from the opening credits was a feeling of a) hard work b) Dwarves & Dragons c) Lord Of The Rings (which I detest) and d) "Fuck this. There's 3 seasons to drudge through"

I made it through episode 1 and 2, didn't have any intetest whatsoever and then d) above kicked-in.

Oh yes, another thing that tipped the scales: all the silly women in my office at the time were talking about "there's so much sex in it!" like it was something that I was missing on TV.
(I was watching the far superior 'The Wire' at the time)

No thanks. I have my own personal kinks & fetishes (modern and realistic, albeit fucked-up).... and thankfully kings/wenches/slaves/queens/monsters/dwarves fucking and poncing around with swords isn't one of them.

You sound like my missus. Not in a whinny woman sort of way but rather how she too hates any type of movie or show from the swords/barbarians type of era. I assume you hate films like Braveheart, Gladiator and Troy because of the period they dwell in. If so than I understand how you could hate GOT.

You're really missing out though. It'd be comparable to someone who missed out on the original Star Wars trilogy because they hated space ships, laser guns, and weird spacemen.

Not at all - the exact opposite: all of those movies from the 50s onward: ancient Rome/Greece/Egypt etc, fascinate me.

Non sci-fi but Tolkeinesque mythical fantasy like this:
"Set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, Game of Thrones has several plot lines and a large ensemble cast but centers on three primary story arcs. The first story arc centers on the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms (I stopped reading here, btw) and follows a web of alliances and conflicts among the dynastic noble families either vying to claim the throne or fighting for independence from the throne. The second story arc focuses on the last descendant of the realm's deposed ruling dynasty, exiled and plotting a return to the throne. The third story arc centers on the longstanding brotherhood charged with defending the realm against the ancient threats of the fierce peoples and legendary creatures that lie far north, and an impending winter that threatens the realm."....does not fascinate me one iota
