At 135lb. Can the snake-like witchcraft of Ras-I Alujah overcome 5lbs and the swarming Duran-esque pressure of The Hitman?
135???? Hatton could never make lightweight. This would have to be 140. I believe that Bramble in his VERY brief prime was P4P better than Hatton, but he never did anything of consequence at 140, so I'd have to pick Hatton by decision.
Exactly. Pretty much everyone name-checked Duran when Hatton was fighting at his peak. Anyways, 135 or 140: not fussed either way...
Duran and Hatton were both aggressive and dug the body, that's LITERALLY where the similarities end. Duran was so much more talented and skilled than Hatton that it's unfair to even say their styles were similar, cause really, they weren't. Duran applied INTELLIGENT pressure, behind a superb defense, and was one of the best counterpunchers that ever lived. At his absolute apex, he didn't even need to apply consistent pressure to win, as the counterpunching master class he put on in the DeJesus rubber match proved. The Palomino fight was also a counterpunching master class for the ages. Hatton wasn't a counterpuncher, he too often attacked in straight lines, and his only means of defense was to grapple. He wasn't a plan B type of guy, and unlike Duran who had a full arsenal of punches, Hatton heavily relied on his hook. Aggression aside, they have very little in common.
In his adult years? I don't think so. Hatton was about as true a junior welter as you can possibly get. He was far too big for 135, yet entirely too small at 147.
I thik they were really similar. Sure Duran was a lot better, but the both liked to use their strenght, clinch, and explode out of the clinch
Okay, ffs, they both weigh-in at 135. It dont matter a fuck cos at fight-time, fighters are never the same anyway Who wins?
Duran was a masterful inside fighter. Hatton, not so much. For a short pressure fighter, Hatton wasn't that effective on the inside, which is why he clinched a lot. Hatton was at his best at mid-range.
Hatton never fought a significant fight at lightweight in his entire career. I'd have to check Boxrec, maybe when he was 19-20 he did. But as a grown man he remained a junior welter. The ONLY way to break this matchup is to have a prime Bramble moving up to 140. The Bramble that beat Mancini and Tyrone Crawley I think had the style to beat Hatton. He was a helluva fighter, which made it all the more impressive when Rosario obliterated him in 2. But Hatton doesn't have the firepower of Rosario, so it's a better matchup for Bramble.
I think Bramble as a useful, tough fighter who just had a better fighter's number That said, Rosario going through him the way he did was remarkable simply becaue he was such a durable, tough guy
Every punch Rosario landed on Bramble sounded like a light heavy hitting a lightweight. Chapo had frightening power.
