Forbidden Planet is one of the best science fiction films ever made and one of the most influential in cinema history. Without FP we would not have Star Trek nor Star Wars, two films that borrowed a lot from this one...Star Trek more than SW. I mean the basic concept of a United Planets Federation with ships exploration 'strange new worlds' with a military crew on a scientific mission whose main characters are the Captain, the doctor and the science officer...man, Gene Roddenberry should have been slapped with a copyright lawsuit! FP had the most awesome special effects and sets of its time and they still hold today. It had an intelligent plot where there is not a single villain and a surprise revelation at the end. Plus no one complains about Anne Francis Altaira's sexy outfits! And it featured Robbie the Robot which fooled many people thinking it was an actual functioning robot! This is a masterpiece that deserves to be discovered by the ipod generation. The spacecruiser C57-D landing in the planet Altair IV near Alpha Centauri Robbie neutralizes the Earthmen laser guns. one of the many great sets from the film awesome underground Krell technology Dr. Morbius daughter, Altaira, at home Lovely Anne Francis in another of the film's outfits
Dr. Morbius home More subterranean machinery from the extinct alien race, Krell The invisible monster breaking through the electric field fence surrounding the ship The Captain (Leslie Nielsen) confronts Dr. Morbius
First film to portray a hologram!(well, special efect, but still...) In typical 50's misleading fashion in the publicity stills & in the movie poster Robbie is portrayed as menacing.
