The Shining? Great looking film (Kubrick, after all) but it's practically a comedy to me, Nicholson was so over the top to the point that his transformation from start to finish comes off as only a mild mood swing; He looks nuts from the get-go and Shelley Duvall was a bad choice for the role, didn't suit her at all

The 1980s was maybe the worst movie decade since talkies debuted but there were some good ones here and there like those

 

Everybody on the forum knows how you feel about The Shining. Youre entitled to your opinion, but you're in the minority. It's rightfully regarded by all as one of the best horror movies of all time. DEFINITELY the best horror movie of the 80s... by far.

Never been a horror movie like it since. I think it's definitely a top 5 overall for the decade. Like it or not, it's an iconic movie.

LMAO Rocky III... That's like selecting a Thomas Kinkade painting out of a pile where the others are Rembrandt, Picasso, Van Gogh, Monet, etc.

 

Please. Rocky III was a good film. Don't pretend you don't enjoy it every time you watch it.

 

It clearly doesn't belong on a list of the 5 best films of the decade, man... Hell, it doesn't belong on a list of the 300 best films of the decade::

It's like listing Freddie Roach on your "Best Fighters Of The 80s" list because he had some fun fights where he got beat up on ESPN back then

I was obviously trolling about Rocky III.

But Raging Bull did indeed bore the shit outta me.

 

I think Raging Bull is a bit overrated, as well... It's a good movie and has some great performances but it is definitely sluggish at times

 

The way one might "enjoy" Rambo II... For all the wrong reasons, essentially, not what the auteur had in mind

 

Rocky III was one of those films that had quite a bit of nonsense in it but as a whole you thoroughly enjoyed it. Still...I scratched it from my top 5.

 

99% of that film (and every Rocky Sequel) was nonsense... It works mainly as comedy and anyone that has ever sat through a Stallone interview knows that comedy isn't what he had in mind

 

I thought most people realized that the Rocky's fell under the category of fun-to-watch bad movies.

 

So is this another one of those lists where you put in movies that make you feel classy over films you'd actually watch?

 

Yup. That's how it works around here.

In addition to this...NEVER and I repeat...NEVER...list a film that incorporates CGI. It'll be deemed as horrible by default and you'd be laughed off the forum. ALL CGI films are shit and well as all action packed films with explosions and shit. A film needs to be dark, gloomy and slow paced before it can be deemed good.

 

The 80's was great for movies. Some of my favorite films were made then.
