It isn't a surprise that Disney's latest chapter in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise Dead Men Tell No Tales took the number one spot at the box office. What it is unusual is its numbers: $62.2 million domestically. That is the lowest opening for a Jack Sparrow sequel. It is in fact the second lowest opening in the franchise as the first film was the lowest opener with $45 million, but then the sequels were having openings of $114 million, $135 million. Franchise fatigue or Johnny Depp post divorce scandal might be factors in the domestic numbers which for a $230 million film could be disastrous. However the film did incredibly well overseas with $208 million, so it stands at a solid $270.2 million worldwide. Disney will make a profit, but most rethink lowering the budget for the next one.

In the second spot Guardians of The Galaxy 2 added $24.2 million to its earnings and has bested the original film's domestic numbers with close to $340 million.

Bombing badly in the third spot is the critically panned remake Baywatch which had one of the worst openings for a highly marketed The Rock film with $18,1 million. Paramount Pictures executive lamented its poor performance and blamed the critics reviews which were universally negative with an RT score of 19%. So far Paramount has had a string of flops (Ghost in the Shell, Monster Trucks, Rings, XXX: The Return of Xander Cage) and were hoping 'Baywatch' would have been their summer savior.

Alien: Covenant took the fourth spot with $13.1 million. Still a disappointment.

Finally in the fifth spot the YA low budget film Everything, Everything might finish its four days opening with $7.6 million.

Actually is the opposite: he has a very successful tract record and until now was considered the most bankable star in Hollywood. This film's performance puts a dent on his record, but to be fair not even Tom Cruise could have saved this fiasco from tanking.

If Johnny Depp just wants to be Jack Sparrow the rest of his career-and honestly who would miss him at this point?-he should just do a POTC tv series.

He wants to be like Arnold who alternated between BANG BANG action films and comedies.

I served with Arnold, I knew Arnold, Arnold was a friend of mine. The Rock is no Arnold.

It's Like Comparing Madonna and Lady Gaga...

The ORIGINAL Did it Better, yet You Can Respect/Appreciate the Copy Cat, Simultaneously...The Rock is Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay More CHARISMATIC Though...

The rock is better looking and has that African American charm and swagger....but I wouldn't necessarily say that he is more charismatic than Arnold.

I don't think the Rock could have pulled off Terminator and Predator ( and running man) the way Arnold did. Not at all. Whereas Arnie would have been able to pull off any Rock role.

    Are You Kidding???...

Arnold's ICONIC Scenes were Primarily Attributed to Good WRITING...Arnold was STOIC as Hell, Especially in the T1 Days, Making the CONTENT Of What he Said Ultra Important...

On the Flipside, the Rock REGULARLY Ad Libbed in Front of WWE Audiences, Which LURED Hollywood into Placing him in Films...

As a thespian Dwayne Johnson is Lawrence Olivier next to Arnold. All the governator had was catchy one-liners that became memorable because of his accent.

Yup! His 'Charisma' was the Product of WRITING...Whereas the Rock Could REED the Fucking Dictionary, and Add Natural CHARISMA to It...

Ahwnult has plenty of charisma and it shows both on an off camera, so I wouldn't attribute it all as the product of writing. I do however agree that The Rock is well ahead in that category.
