I dunno anything about the story, but I do know the director completely changed the ending from the King book.... and King loved it!
I loved the ending too which was much better than the book. In the film they knew what caused the mist and the creatures, but I don't remember if that knowledge was also in the book's story. Also, at the end of the film (SPOILERS) the mist was fading and the creatures were being killed off. (SPOILERS END). For the tv show they would likely go with the books ending. At the end of the book the four people made it out of the store and got into a vehicle and just drove off into the mist. That leaves a lot of open story lines that can be explored. So season one could be a reboot of the film stretched out until the final episode where they get in the car and drive off to destination unknown. If they have decent ratings and get picked up again, the second season could be pretty interesting.
I liked the movie but Andre Braugher was the most obvious "asshole that's going to get killed" character ever.
I thought in the book, King went off on a sub-plot about a Government, military experiment alled Project Arrowhead which was about opening portals to alternative dimensions?
Its possible. Like I said I don't really remember much other than the ending and a faint feeling that film was very close to the story. That's right, it should also be mentioned this wasn't actually a novel but rather a short story in one of King's short story books.
Watched the first three episodes of this and it was okay. You were right about the project Arrowhead thing. The show seems to be playing out similar to The Walking Dead where it deals with several people's personal situations and the mist is more of a background issue they have to deal with. Basically the show focuses on the people trapped inside and how they're going to deal with the ordeal of survival as well as each other. There's a large group of people trapped in a mall and a much smaller group trapped in a church. As for the mist itself they never show any creatures although people are killed in it, other people walk around and survive in it for a while. I doubt I'll watch anymore episodes.
Ive just thought: the Project Arrowhead dimension-portal thing is probably a) a nod from Stranger Things and b) why that show has such a Stephen King theme about it all, (+ the kids, etc)
