what happens here? Roy will be winning the fight on speed alone....but the question is: can ward gradually figure him out, catch up to him eventually and stop him in a come from behind knockout? Jones was elusive but " the body doesn't move".
real real ugly fight, with not a lot of punches thrown. Think it's close but RJ is always an inch or two ahead. Ward might get the undeserved decision though
Roy would dominate him. Wards not a special talent, he's a stinker and a thinker who can in fight and fight dirty. Jones beats him 10 times out of 10 for the same reason prime Jones beats Hopkins 10 out of 10. Too much pure talent and the mentality to simply win the rounds and the fight.
I think the first hopkins fight is a fair comparison to this. Ward impressed me against Kovalev though...not so much his skills but his adjustments and more importantly his heart. I don't think Roy ever had that kind of heart and if ward adjusts to the speed and manages to nail that body consistently, the head may become available and we'll see what Roy was made of. Also ward is a highly skilled fighter himself that is taller and bigger than Roy. Still....I can't see ward getting past the speed....which was insane.
Andre Ward considers it "blasphemous" to even discuss this matchup. His words, not mine. Does he sound like he thinks he could beat Roy?
I was clearly joking. But to seriously answer, Roy would win a commanding UD. Ward would get badly hurt and probably dropped early on by a counter he never sees, and for the rest of the fight he'd be pretty cautious.
Ward has built himself a pretty impressive resume despite not fighting too often, but nothing in that resume suggests he could beat Jones Jr. Jones Jr was a very different beast to the likes of Froch, Kessler and Kovalev. The speed difference between him and that lot, for a start, is absolutely massive. Ward usually has the advantage in speed, but Jones Jr would make him look like he was throwing punches in slow motion. MTF
Roy via clear UD. I think his counters would put Wardd in a defensive shell and he has enough power to hurt him, and I think Roy's just too elusive to get caught with anything in return from Ward.
No way Roy dominates Ward. It will be a close ugly affair. As D&M said, the Hopkin fight is a good comparaison to this one
We essentially saw Kovalev outbox Ward in the first fight. Roy would beat Ward with much room to spare. If you look at how easily Roy was countering Virgil Hill, I think we're looking at something similar here, only I'm giving Dre the benefit of going the distance.
Ward's ONLY Chance is to Establish the Jab... If he's Unable to Do that, he Gets SCHOOLED...Roy Wouldn't In-Fight w/Ward, so if Andre CAN'T Consistently Land the Jab, he Gets Feinted and Potshotted Into "Bolivian", Hurt a Time or 3 and Convincingly UD'ed... Ward Doesn't Have the Greatest Whiskers Either, so a Late Stoppage Isn't Out of the Realm of Possibility Either... REED
RJ barely used the jab, except against Louise. And he fights nothing like Kovy, nor does he hit nearly as hard We can't take much from this fight.
Jones doesn't have the raw power of Kovalev, but due to his speed AND power his punches definitely would have more effect. Ward would getting nailed by counters he doesn't see. Shit, Ward even said in the interview that Roy would be so dangerous to fight cause he hit guys with unorthodox shots they never see.
