How does the lead-footed Ginger do against Hagler's opponents in title fights?

You can add the opponents in his big 5 Philly fights pre-title as well.

Ginger loses to Hearns and Leonard, has a tough fight with Duran which could go either way but beats the rest.

Definitely loses to: Leonard, Hearns, Duran.

Confidently say he loses to: Mugabi.

Arguably loses to: Roldan, Hamsho, Antuofermo, Sibson, Minter.

My point being, Ginger would have been just another Hagler victim. Against the early-to-mid 80s Hagler, he wouldn't be the LEAST BIT competitive. He'd take a one sided thrashing and get stopped.

Fulgencio Obelmejias would be a toss up for me as well. His size and style would give Alvarez fits but he was hittable. I don't know if Canelo could constantly pressure and break him down over 12 rounds.

The old Bennie Briscoe that Hagler beat would be a interesting fight. Canelo could win but Briscoe was still dangerous.

If his face held up Hell yeah I could see it.

Until we REALLY know about Canelo's chin, I could see Tony Sibson stopping him.

Canelo hasn't proven he can deal with a big strong mw that can take his shots, push him back and make him work. He's got skills but they aren't high level defensive skills that he's going to school guys like Obel, Hamsho or Roldan; he's going to have to outfight them. Not only has he not fought any real punchers, he's mainly fought smaller guys and shot sluggers.

He just doesn't have the pedigree or accomplishments you seem to think he has.

Clay didn't have the pedigree or accomplishments before he fought Liston either.

I was trying to give Canelo some credit, but yes, I would pick guys like Hamsho, Vito, and Minter to beat him.

Leonard, Hearns, and Duran are the three GIVENS.

Sly would agree on Leonard, and Hearns, but I'm sure he'd try to convince us that Canelo beats Duran. He wouldn't. Duran would beat the shit outta Canelo.

Canelo has done precisely nothing to suggest he would beat even the likes of Minter and Vito. Who has he beat at MW? Paul Smith and Amir Khan?

Hearns would mismatch canelo. Leonard would beat him clearly but not mismatch. Duran vs Canelo would be competitive and Duran may win a close decision...but could go either way as Canelo is bigger and stronger and just as fast at middleweight. I just think Duran's busier style wins with the judges.

Canelo beats the rest...not sure about minter though but he fucks up Roldan and Sibson and mugabi.

Vito beat Hugo Corro, who I would pick to school Nelo. Beat the Hell outta Eugene Hart, who was a more dangerous puncher than Nelo.

Boxing didn't start in 2010, Sly.

I haven't seen anything from Canelo at MW that would persuade me that he would even beat Kevin Finnigan, who Minter beat, let alone Minter. What has Canelo done at MW that even puts him in this sort of discussion? Knocked out the most china-glass chinned 'elite' fighter in living memory? Beat Paul Smith?

I'd have backed the eight-hundred and fifty year old version of Emile Griffith that Minter beat to knock out Amir Khan. I'd back Amir Khan's mother to knock Amir Khan out. He has arguably the least punch resistance of any 'top-level' fighter in my lifetime. And he was giving Canelo a bunch of problems before he got sparked.

You'd REALLY have to explain to me how Leonard-Canelo ISN'T a mismatch.

Leonard would shit Canelo. And I'm not talking about prime Leonard, I mean the 87 Leonard would shit on Canelo.

I'm actually trying to give the Ginger a chance here. I'm reserving judgement until after the Golov fight before I either write him off against some of these guys, or give him a chance.

But based on his CURRENT body of work, there's NOTHING to suggest he definitely beats guys like Roldan and Sibson.

I've seen lots of footage of Vito antuofermo and nothing I've seen suggests to me that he could beat Canelo. I don't give a fuck that he had an official draw with Hagler. Canelo is bigger, stronger, faster and smarter than Vito was.

It's one thing to say that Canelo is overrated by Mexicans but it's another thing to go to the other extreme and suggest he'd get beaten by all middleweight contenders in the 70s and 80s. Are you suggesting that boxing has declined that much thst a guy like Canelo can beat cotto, trout and Lara and hold titles in two divisions Having only lost once, but cannot even get to top contender status 30 and 40 years ago?

You guys are as ridiculous as the casual fans you complain about....more ridiculous actually as you take it to the other extreme but even more extreme.

Everyone with eyes to see can tell that Canelo is a very good fighter in every aspect of the game and has no glaring weaknesses.

Perhaps, but nothing to suggest he loses to them either.

I believe that you'll change your mind after the GGG fight ( or else suggest that GGG is a bum, to save face)

Have any thoughts changed now that we've seen Canelo beat GGG, Jacobs, and Kova?
