I don't think Canelo would be able to get inside Carlos' reach much at all, and on the occasions when he rushed in on him, Monzon would throw him off and backwards about 5 feet as was his wont. Canelo is tough however, and it wouldn't be a walk in the park for Carlos as some guys Alvarezs' size gave him trouble such as Griffith and Moyer, but I wouldn't put Canelo in that category of class as a fighter. He would be too methodical for Monzon, and after a few rounds Carlos would most likely get tired of dressing him up with the jab and move in on the guy and take care of business midway through the fight as Canelo would go down swinging and still trying.
Not saying it changes the outcome but its worth remembering Canelo has about 10lb on Monzon, in the ring. But anyway, Monzon TKO 13.
Golovkin is not as good as Monzon, ESPECIALLY not at 35. Monzon was a style nightmare for Canelo, and there's literally nothing that Shitnelo does better.
I tend to agree with you on the styles matchup but "shitnelo" had faster hands and better combination punching than Monzon.
You overrate the Hell outta Shitnelo's combination punching ability. Early 70s Monzon was a more effective, more accurate combination puncher by far. Monzon would give Canelo a horrible beating.
Canelo's combination punching is being absurdly overrated. Yall are making it seem like he's some all time great combo puncher... he's not. Ricardo Mayorga would look like a great combo puncher against Kirkland. Canelo does N O T H I N G better than Monzon. Not a goddamn thing. As for how it plays out: Monzon jabs Canelo to death for a number of rounds, and Canelo doesn't find Monzon an easy target. Canelo gets in a few good shots, but they don't phase the steal chinned Monzon. By the mid rounds, Monzon opens up more-and-more as Canelo grows more and more frustrated, and gets more-and-more picked up. By the late rounds, Canelo is just a sitting duck, and Monzon just tees off on him until his corner likely throws in the towel.
Canelo is MM's new whipping boy. Always put in matchups he'll lose. I think that used to be Terry Norris, everyone loved to pick on him, but now he's being matched up against guys he'd probably beat (Floyd, Nando, Canelo). Monzon just looked ugly and awkward in the ring but really knew how to fight and what he was doing in there. He'd be hell for the great MW champs in history, forget the decent ones like Canelo.
That's just absurd. Has D&M said, Canelo had much faster hands than Monzon and was a much more creative combo punchers. Monzon fought his shares of bums and never looked as good as Canelo does throwing combos Now, don't get me wrong, I think Monzon would destroy him if they fought tomorrow (I see the fight playing out pretty much exactly as you do. the GGG fight might change my mind, but I doubt it), but claiming that Monzon does everything better is simply ridiculous nostalgia
