Nocturnal Animals was a good movie for one viewing, but it didn't captivate me enough to wanna see it again.

    What's your takeaway of it?

Nothing very deep- obviously the scenes which are the movie script are a metaphor for how her leaving him made him feel - that wasn't obvious in real time on first viewing -but watching it over when you know to look, you can read a bit more into that structure like the various characters in it representing different aspects of jake and adams personalities. Even the revenge angle only became obvious to me on second viewing - first time even the stand-up at the end perplexed me. But then, I'm slow as fuck especially if I watch something for the first time at home where it often doesn't get my full attention

Yeah, that's the exact same take-away I got from it as well. But I saw it in the theatre, where it had my full attention. Like you, I tend to be more distracted watching movies at home. I just didn't know if you had picked up on a deeper meaning that I missed.

But yeah, his entire plan was to make her feel enough remorse to meet up with him, then take his revenge by standing her up.

Oh Hut, getting back to No Country For Old Men, I definitely think that Chigurh killed the wife at the end. That's why he was tryin to get the Hell away as fast as possible before the police showed up.

I think he killed the wife for refusing to take part in the coin toss, and was checking his shoes for blood.

Ehhh, I don't see much room to infer in that scene. He definitely killed her.

A far more ambigious scene, is when he walks into the office building and kills that guy, then turns around and the account/employee asks him "Are you gonna kill me too?" and Chigurh says, "That depends, did you see me?"

That one could go either way. Either he meant "I'll let you live if you promise you didn't see me", or he meant "You've seen my face, so yes, I'm going to kill you."

    I dunno which.

You know, the only thing worse than WTF movies are the pricks who understand them with just one viewing. They even look down on you and give you funny looks when they realize you didn't get it.

I've never actually met one of these fucks but I know they're out there, and I'll bet they're just sitting around right at this very moment thinking about how smart they are.

I never understood how with all the crazy shit they dream a spinning top somehow can verify reality. Its probably too deep for me.

I liked Interstellar, to me its the only movie that has ever effectively depicted a plausible time travel scenario.

I liked Interstellar a helluva lot more than Inception.

I'll only re-watch Inception if I'm having trouble sleeping.

Yeah, I'm not sure what Hut is "guessing" at. There's nothing to guess.

Dude drove a long distance JUST to keep his word and kill her. Then, at the last minute, he decides to give her ONE shot at staying alive by letting the coin toss decide her fate. She declined the coin toss, so what the fuck you think he was gonna do? Say, "You know what, I feel generous, you can live..." Of course not.

I like the part when she's telling him that she can't afford her house, or her mother's funeral, and he says "I wouldn't worry about that anymore."

Like the smug condescending viewers who insist there is only one possible ending to The Sopranos. Actually the worst may be David Chase himself, who appears to be one miserable prick who will say things that imply that there is more than one possibly interpretation, and then later get mad when people ask about the ending.

David Simon also seems pretty miserable too. The creators of the 2 best shows ever IMO are a couple of miserable fucks who take themselves way too seriously.

David Lynch also has some of those annoying know-it-all viewers.

"It's just art, you just don't get it, blah blah blah".

I didn't even realise people were unsure about whether Chigurh killed the wife, thought it was obvious.

Should have Titled This the "Most PRETENTIOUS Films Ever" Thread...Or the "Oooooh, Look @ Me, My Movie's WEIRD" Thread...

If a Plot Twist Leaves You Saying "WTF?" I DIDN'T See That Coming", that's GREAT...But if You Walk Away from a Film That's Ended, Saying "WTF?" In a CONFUSED Sense, that's NOT Good...

Or, as Jay-Z Said, "Because You Don't Understand Him, It Don't Mean That he's Nice; Just Means You Don't Understand All the Bullshit That He Writes."

I'm equally mystified at your confusion. You don't see the killing. Simple as that.

Use google, there countless write ups all concluding he "did". I say it with quotes because its not real life. Besides, apparently there is a book too and in the book he explicitly kills her.. what more evidence do you need??! Are you demanding a sequel that shows her bleeding out on the floor, taking a last breath as she has a death stare, followed by a scene with the police showing up and a doctor confirming "she's dead" after providing verification of his credentials as a medical professional?

not demanding anything, just observing the directoral choice not to show you either of the climatic scenes and to leave her fate open to interpretation, however much they might have also led you by implication to form one conclusion. Usually you'd be shown those scenes and they'd make up a dramatic finale. Not a criticism just a trite, passing observation
