Cause I'm sick of talking about this farce mismatch next week. Let's act like real fans and discuss the REAL superfight. Thoughts, analysis, and predictions.
I don't think Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor is necessarily a farce. There's absolutely no way that any boxing fan can't be somewhat nervous about what could happen in the first 2-3 rounds of that fight. This Conor cat is young. Floyd is retired for 2 years. It's an interesting fight...at least for the first few rounds where Conor will be trying to go for the knockout. But it's good that we've got some really good boxing matches this year. The sport is gaining steam again. Good to see MMA fans and MMA fighters all talking about boxing right now, even if for the short term. I noticed there are no UFC events this month either which is interesting. Everyone's focus from the MMA world is on this fight.
Trust me, I'm not that nervous. Floyd ain't losing this fight unless THE BIGGEST FIX in sport's history is in, and he's agreed to throw it.
How many PPV buys and how much money do you think Mayweather is leaving with when it's all tallied? On Jimmy Kimmel yesterday he said he's getting $350 million but he has a habit of talking nonsense at times. The reports were that he's getting 70-75% of the pot.
He's gonna make a lot of fuckin money. After Uncle Sam takes his natural cut, and the IRS get what's owed to them, he won't be taking home 350 mil, but he's gonna make A... LOT of goddamn money next week.
From what I know, they were expecting 5 million PPV buys and an almost immediate sellout of the venue. Up to now, thousands of tickets still remain unsold because of exorbitant pricing. On top, there is still a sourness left from the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight 2 years ago which resulted in a horrid sell of the Mayweather/Berto fight soon after which did not crack even half a million PPV buys. Now the consensus is that McGregor being the biggest star in the MMA world will attract a lot of eyes and attention to this event against Mayweather but it seems that the rich white boxing audience are not embracing McGregor as was expected as he is largely unknown to the boxing masses who don't follow the sport of MMA. And with McGregor bringing a large MMA fanbase, most are lower class to middle class and a younger demographic who don't have the financial means to purchase tickets or the PPV for that matter. Purchasing UFC tickets and UFC ppvs featuring McGregor were much more affordable than purchasing tickets and PPV for this Mayweather/McGregor event.
