I've never seen Chinatown. Is it really that good?

Plus, I'm of the opinion that GF II really doesn't compare to the first.

But yeah, Chinatown is an amazing movie. Jack Nicholson at his apex.

However, IMO, Chinatown is one of the those better movies.

Jurassic Park wasn't nominated for Best Picture simply because it wasn't that good. It was the 'Avatar' of the 90's: great special effects, not much else.

Titanic is a masterpiece. A fucking classic. I have watched that movie several times while 'LA Confidential' put me & me wife to sleep in the movie theater.

 

I liked Dances with Wolves over Goodfellas an extremely overrated movie second only to 'Scarface'.

 

You are delusional. 'Chinatown' is an okay film at best. The Godfather Part 2 is better than the first and that by itself an amazing feat.

Putting Jurassic Park and Avatar on the same level is like putting Goodfellas and The Departed on the same level. It's comical.

There's a reason why JP is one of the most popular movies of all time nearly 25 years since it's release, and Avatar is TOTALLY FORGOTTEN not even 10 years since it's release.

If JP had to rely on special effects, it'd be dead in the water, because it's special effects aren't mind blowing by 2017 standards.

It's stood the test of time because everything about it was quality.

And while Jurassic World was "good", none of the 3 sequels hold a candle to the original.

You probably watched 'Jurassic Park' as a kid in the 90s. The 90s kids just LOVED that film and remains close to your generation's heart. And you watched 'Avatar' as an adult and while gave it kudos for its advancement in SPFX technology probably left you cold in your seat. Well, same thing happened to me & many adults with 'Jurassic Park': marveled at the CGI dinos, but when they were not on screen all we got left was the same old tricks Spielberg had us used to, but less effective. Its sequel was just a 'Valley of the Gwangi' rip-off instead of an homage. 'Avatar' is NOT forgotten: three sequels are coming up from James Cameron and Disney recently opened its Avatar experience at one of its parks which has become its current biggest attraction.

 

To each his own. I was more entertained by Costner imitating a buffalo than by Ray Liotta's overacting and fake laugh.

 

When did I said 'Avatar' is a classic? "Chinatown' is overrated beyond belief just because of Nicholson and Polanski.

 

The last time I watched JP was about 3 months ago with my son, and it's STILL a kick ass movie.

There's A LOT of movies that I thought were awesome when I was a kid/teen, but if I re-watched them now I'd think they were stupid.

The Godfather movies are overrated beyond belief mainly because their 'quotability' has entered the stupid low-IQ of Joe Public which makes them appear better than they are.

As for the superiorChinatown, one, it's Nicholson's best movie for acting and two, probably Polanski's best alongside Rosemary's Baby.

Yeah, Chinatown is indeed underrated. Probably cause it's a slower paced, less violent than GF.

Nicholson's acting in Chinatown stacks up to Pacino's acting in GF.

 

So? I watched Enter the Dragon last month, for like the hundred twentieth time and still think is the greatest action film ever made. My all time favorite film, apparently. I loved the Mexican wrestling films as a kid, but now I find them almost unwatchable.

Star Wars is a great film, a classic that has stood the test of time and is adored by millions worldwide...and I am sure you don't regard it very high.
