Canelo's jab has quickly gone from underrated a few years ago, to currently overrated.

It's a FACT that Golovkin has displayed the better jab of the two throughout their careers.

These Canelo fans on this thread are making this fat Ginger out to be goddamn Larry Holmes.

This bout is more even now than a year ago as Canelo has shown improvements while GGG has shown signs of being more hittable. I still will be rooting for GGG, but he better stop Alvarez or he will be robbed the decision.

Boxing actually has good momentum right now, and casuals are hyped for this fight. For the love of God, please no bullshit decision in this fight.

I hope it doesn't go the distance.

You know I had this thought that we dismiss the Mayweather fight as a joke (and it entertained) and then get Yahoo Serious about the Canelo-GGG and one Miss weight or there is the bad cut or injury.

I can't see but entertainment, but only a disaster judge effort would be terrible. The way these guys fight, I think the round winner should be obvious. Close is good conversation so good outcome.

Can you imagine bad stoppage in close fight too - possibility.

I never worry about "bad" stoppages. Those are so subjective, and rarely hurt the sport. Bad decisions in mainstream fights are perhaps THE MAIN thing that turns casual fans off.

I don't foresee it in this matchup, though. Canelo won't go the distance.

I'm not so sure golov is on the decline. Tjing about Jacobs is, not only is he a really good fighter, he also weighed something like 185 on fight night. That size difference was clearly a factor. And as far as the Brook fight, the bottom line is he easily knocked him out. Anyway, I think compared to Jacobs, Canelo will be easy for Golov. And not only was Jacobs huge, but his defense was really good in that fight. You are not going to see defense lile that from Canelo.

    All valid points, Doub.

But I DO think Golov is declining.

His peak was circa 2012-2014 when he was destroying Proska, Macklin, Geale, and Stevens. Not top fighters, I'll admit, but he was quicker and sharper back then than he is now.

I think the 2013 Golov would fuck Canelo up one sidedly.

But he'll still win, just in a more competitive fight.

Golov does look a bit shit when people come at him with decent power and solid chins. But not to the point he's ever in trouble, just gives him a few problems before he eventually pounds them to the canvas.

Alvarez has got this. The stars are aligned. He's getting GGG at the right time; GGG is on the slight decline and Alvarez is at his peak. Alvarez is going to make GGG appear slow. Close decision win for the (Scottish) Mexican

Good post, it's exactly how I feel. Jacobs is huge, and actually a really good boxer. No shame in having a close fight with him. You can't destroy everyone.

And Brook? Just like you said, the end result is he KO'd him easily in 4 rounds without getting out of 2nd gear. For a guy that many believed was an elite fighter, and actually outweighed Gennady - not too shabby.

    You're exaggerating your ass off.

Canelo will not make Golov look slow.

Golov isn't Liam Smith, and Canelo didn't suddenly turn into a young Roy.

Canelo does have quicker hands than Golov, but that's all gonna be nullified by Golov's jab.

In matchups like this, I know they're pros, but don't underestimate the HUGE disparity in amateur pedigree.

Golov has seen virtually every style by now. Canelo's never seen anything like Golov.

Yeah, Jacobs is the best fighter he's fought - very underrated due to the Hail Mary pirog landed - but after brook thats two fights in a row he looked visibly slow on the trigger imo, not one. At 35 with the length of amateur career thats reasonable cause for pessimisim, tho I hope im wrong.

Exactly, including me by the way. I figured if Pirog can blitz him in 2 rounds, surely Gennady is also going to breeze through him in about 4 rounds or so.

What do you think about the Pirog fight? Fluky or Jacobs has improved? Obviously not forgetting Pirog himself is excellent - you once had him P4P top 5 remember ;)

Oh yeah, and I can't really deny what you say, 2 fights in a row he has looked more slow and sluggish, and just not as sharp or fierce. But dunno, I think the Brook fight was an anomaly - he looked weird at the weigh in, kind of ill, like he had a cold or something. Just didn't look right. Yet still crushed him, really. That says something, that even at a bad day at the office, he can still destroy a fighter of Brook's calibre.

And Jacobs I don't think was an off night, I think Jacobs was just very good fighter and difficult style matchup, with a significant size advantage.

And again, just to remind you guys - to prepare to Gennady, Alvarez has just fought Khan, "Liam Smith", and a walking punchbag.

Iirc jacobs was winning until pirog caught him in the 4th or 5th. No real way to know how good pirog was I just really liked his style

Damn I forgot it went to the 5th, I remember Pirog KOing him really early with that awesome shift.

Surprised you're rooting for Gennady btw, I thought you were more of a Canelo fan.

Pirog was an excellent fighter, it's a shame he got injured in training for the Golovkin fight, would have been a blinding scrap.

Ginger actually looks a tad bit slower hitting the pads than he normally does. Bulking up could bite him in the ass.

He shouldn't be attempting to out strength Golov to win this fight.

Why do you think it favours Canelo over 12, re: 'bullshit decision'?

(Not questioning your viewpoint...I'm just ignorant about it)

This fight is going the distance with the exception of a fight ending injury or a one punch body shot KO.

Golovkin is going to break Canelo down and stop him.

If it goes the distance it's because Canelo goes into a shell after tasting Gennady's power. Can't see that happening though, I think Canelo will try and fight fire with fire, and get beaten senseless for his troubles :D

Canelo is really good at draining down to 154 and then Balloning up to give himself a big weight advantage which won't matter in this fight.

Also, Brook and Jacobs would have beat the shit out of Khan, Smith and Chavez JR and would have both given Canelo tough fights as well.

I think it will be an exciting fight but I don't see Canelo standing up to GGG' pressure.

I'll have fun laughing at you after the fight for sure, when Canelo gets slapped around like a short, fat legged, red headed step child :D

Do you really rate Canelo Sly? Or - be honest - is your firm pick partly down to accentuating Floyd's impressive win over Canelo? :D
