Trinidad would beat the ever living fuck outta Canelo. I can assure you, Golov would not have been laughing at Tito's best bombs like he laughed at Canelo's.
I can't envision Canelo beating Trinidad. Not a prime, active Tito, at least. Put it this way, I think Fernando Vargas would destroy Canelo, let alone Tito.
Canelo arguably LOST to Lara and Trout. And the reason those were close fights is because Canelo tends to fight in spurts to conserve energy. Wouldn't work against Vargas who would press the attack, dig Canelo's body, and it's not like Canelo has the power to take Vargas out. Stun him, shake him, sure. But he really has nothing on Vargas, except for chin.
Hmm.. A Vargas win by close decision is possible...but you said Vargas would "destroy" him which implies stoppage or at the very least a one sided domination. That's ludicrous. |If GGG couldn't get close to stopping Canelo how is vargas going to do it?
Not that Canelo is an all-time great or anything but Vargas never "destroyed" anybody as good as him. I liked Fernando and his resume for such a young fighter was insane, but he is quite overrated on this board.
Yeah, Vargas wouldn't destroy Canelo. HOWEVER, I'd still favor the 99-00 Vargas to win by decision. As for Tito-Canelo, given Canelo's shit stamina, and given Tito's all time great level stamina, I don't see how you can make a case for Canelo winning. And Trinidad was a more explosive puncher than Golovkin, make no mistake about it.
Whilst I would agree with you that Tito is a more explosive puncher than Golovkin, the difference is in the way they fight. Although they're both stalkers who apply constant pressure, Trinidad won't throw unless he's set, where as Golovkin is always firing jabs, keeping you occupied and scoring points. I think Canelo more than proved his whiskers on Saturday so I don't see Tito taking him out with one shot, and the movement would give him fits, as it always did.
Canelo's movement isn't on par with Hopkins or De La Hoya's movement. Hell, he can't even move as good as David Reid. Canelo when backed up appears clueless. And Trinidad would have no problem firing back in the pocket on a shorter opponent, particularly one that's vulnerable to short hooks to the head, along with the constant pressure Tito brings. I think he breaks Canelo down.
Trinidad hits harder than Canelo but Canelo has a better chin than Tito. If you do the power to chin ratio Canelo's is better quite frankly so Canelo would likely hurt Tito worse than in return. But yes Tito has a huge edge in stamina and that'll factor in down the stretch but Tito will likely be bounced up and down off the canvas by then at least twice and so if it goes the distance Tito could lose a decision on account of conceding too many knockdowns. Also Canelo's movement will certainly bother Trinidad who notoriously cannot cut off the ring and needed to be set to punch. Overall though I lean towards Tito winning by close decision
It seems that you guys have lost all understanding of what boxing skill is, and automatically assume that moving/running = smart boxing. Trinidad was a better technician than Canelo, and would OUTBOX Canelo.
Canelo's movement wouldn't bother Tito much. The guy doesn't have the legs of Hopkins, and he can't move consistently due to his shitty tank. If we're talking about a PRIME Trinidad here, then he's much quicker than the faded Golov we saw on Saturday.
Canelo's movement would annoy Tito for a bit, but not long at all. He's not bad defensively, but he isn't unfindable in there either. He wouldn't be able to avoid Trinidad for long. And I really don't think he has the power to damage Trinidad. He couldn't even knock down or out a smaller, faded Cotto. Wtf is he gonna do to Trinidad?
He doesn't have to knock him out though, he just has to hit hard enough to keep him honest. I think he's a decent enough puncher to do that. What if Tito can't hurt Canelo, then what?
I don't think anyone believes Canelo will "outbox" Trinidad. However his movement and countering will reduce Tito's output
His movement and countering would reduce Trinidad's output.... UNTIL his pathetic stamina emerges... which wouldn't take long considering Tito would be applying mental pressure on him from the jump. I'd argue that Trinidad was a better counterpuncher than Canelo. This imagine of Tito as David Tua is played out.
I'm not convinced. Would have been a damned good fight but GGG's chin is so good and he's so relentless that I would pick him over Tito
He'd outwork Canelo if he can't KO him. He'd keep him in a shell all night. The power of one Floyd Mayweather kept Canelo from being offensive, and that was a 36 year old past prime Floyd. A much smaller guy. Tito was more aggressive, had better hand speed than Golovkin, and threw good short shots inside, which is the key to beating Canelo, who likes to rest a lot (No good vs Tito). Honestly, I don't think Canelo beats any of the top 154 pounders of all time. He definitely isn't a top 10 for me.
I could still see Tito stopping Canelo. Tito had a different type of power than Golov, and I've been saying that for YEARS! Golov's a thudding/heavy handed type of puncher. Trinidad had SNAPPING/concussive power. There's a difference. Trust me, Canelo could NOT afford to eat Trinidad's power all night... he WOULD get badly hurt.
Tito would never beat any version of Golovkin. The guy was a fucking left hook on legs. Lost to every elite fighter he ever fought, and in dominant fashion.
Trinidad pound for pound is better than Golovkin. But GGG is a better 160 pounder. Canelo would try to survive after tasting a few Tito power shots. Question is, how long would he hold up under the constant pressure?
