Xplosive type thread, I admit, but I thought this one should be interesting. Most prominent black fighters tend to be "African American"...but there have been a few very good black fighters in history that haven't hailed from the US. Guys like Nelson, McCallum, Griffith, Casamayor, Lewis etc etc.

    What's your top 10 list?

That's where it gets more tricky... because people will say "no they're Hispanic"... Kid Chocolate and Antonio Cervantes look black as fuck to me, pretty much African ... Felix Trinidad less so ... do all 3 count as "black"? None of them? Only the first two?

Is REED blacker than Xplosive's Mario Van Peebles looking ass???

When asked about two wins over Tiger, I believe Griffith said "I proved I can handle a lot of Dick."

A black man is a black man whether or not he was born in Cuba, Puerto Rico or Russia. If the guy has "afro hair" and black facial features he's black...even if his last name is Ramos. Ya feel me?

Apparently blecks are the only group who tend to be fully homosapien; Europeans are around 4% Neanderthal, South East asians part homo erectus, aboriginals partly some other now extinct form of human whos name I forget. Thought you might find that interesting!

Anyhoo, probably not one of the best but Leone Jacovacci deserves mention for historical significance

I was listening to that tune in my car and my wife was with me and we were driving near a spot in Waterbury where a bunch of black folks were hanging out and she started laughing "can we please turn this off? We are so fucking pale! I feel like an idiot listening to this in front of a bunch of black people" ... I turned it up louder

I consider Tiger better/greater than Nelson.

TBH, Nelson is a tad bit overrated.

I agree. It doesn't matter where the chicken laid the egg. If two Russians move to Jamaica and have a kid it won't somehow automatically become black. They can be granted citizenship, grow up there know only the local language and culture but they're still at white. Even if they're "accepted" it doesn't change genes. PC people don't like to hear it but it's simple truth.

When it comes to the boxing question it gets more tricky due to nationality. Never mind America, but use other countries. For example is Lennox Lewis Canadian or English?

He was born in England, but won a gold medal for Canada in the Olympics. You kind of establish your nationality at that point no? He wasn't a refugee. Later he decided to "represent" England and since then pretty much everybody considers him a Brit.

To be clear, nobody his saying the dude aint black. I'm asking about the African American part. If he was born in Washington DC, instead of London, moved to the Canada and won the Olympic gold as a Canadian would he be an "African American?". Is Jose Napoles Cuban or Mexican?

A lot of people stubbornly refuse to see nationality and ethnicity as two separate entities

What am I? An American, of course

But what else am I? An Irishman

Exactly. I fully understand putting nationality first, but when asked the question "what are you" (or some variation thereof) people know exactly what you mean but choose to answer indignantly as if it's either:

    A)"left wing" offensive/racist
B)"right wing" American! (any other answer is both irrelevant and unpatriotic)

Also agreed. I mean, what if two brothers were seperated at birth, both of African heritage. One grew up in New York, and the other grew up in Puerto Rico. Is the NY brother the only black guy? :D Is the Rican brother not black, but just "hispanic"? :D

He's suddenly not black because of where he grew up? :D

Seemingly so, yes. I've heard several people blatantly deny black people's blackness and replace it with latino or hispanic.

Even Peter Quillin himself said "I'm not black, I'm Cuban" :D

I've heard many idiots, even some that used to post on this forum, call an OBVIOUS black man "Hispanic " just because he was born in Cuba, Mexico or some central or South American country.
