Two best westerns of the 90s.

Jesus, "Unforgiven" by about 10 miles in an 11 mile race. Hell, I consider the Kevin Costner triumvirate of "Wyatt Earp", "Silverado" and "Open Range" all better then "Tombstone". Absolutely anything with Clint Eastwood riding on a horse in the old west is better then "Tombstone".

I consider "Tombstone" way over-rated, in case you haven't figured that out by now. ;)

Yeah, I believe that you and Cdogg are the resident Tombstone haters. Can't figure out why. It's an amazing movie, due in large part to Kilmer.

It just seems cheesy to me. Yeah, I agree Kilmer was great in it, but Dennis Quaid was just as good playing the same role in "Wyatt Earp", in an all around higher quality made movie.

Tombstone was well acted across the board though.

I'll take Tombstone in a close call here. I do think both movies are overrated. Unforgiven has the old western feel to it but I don't think the story was that strong. Tombstone is more of a spectacle with rewatch value. Kilmer was stellar and memorable.

Glad to see Open Range mentioned even though this thread isn't about this. It's in my top 5 westerns.

Oh well, IDGAF what anybody says. Tombstone's a top 5 all time western in my book.

Kilmer stole the show, but Kurt Russell, Sam Elliot, Bill Paxon, and Powers Boothe all turned in quality performances.

And of course, Michael Biehn played an incredibly good psychopath in Ringo. Second best performance of the movie behind Kilmer.

The gun fight scene between Holiday and Ringo at the end is just fuckin classic. I don't understand how anybody can degrade Tombstone.

Tombstone for me. Tombstone definitely doesn't have the high grade acting chops that Unforgiven had in spades but these always come down to one question for me: if I can watch one right now, which would it be?

    Tombstone.

It could be that I have seen Tombstone too much but I think Unforgiven is the better film. Also if given the choice of which to watch right now it’s definitely Unforgiven then Wyatt Earp and last Tombstone.

I don’t think WE is better than Tombstone but Tombstone is a more stylish flashy film with a catchy yet not deep type of dialogue. WE is a deeper more grittier version of the story and like I said I’ve seen Tombstone so many times I would more than likely not watch it if it came on.
